Program: Youth Action Project Young Scholars
Stipend: Approximately $1020 bi-weekly, plus an education award of up to $4,546.50
Term of Service: August 2022 - June 2023
Location: San Bernardino, CA

Position Description
The Volunteer Coordinator (VC) is responsible for recruiting and managing community members, with a focus on beneficiaries, to participate in various service projects. The VC is also responsible for coordinating service events for AmeriCorps National Days of Service.

Primary Responsibilities:
Member duties do not include any prohibited or unallowable activities per 45 CFR § 2520.65

  • Recruitment and management of one-time and ongoing volunteers based on Youth Action Project’s community service projects and programmatic goals
  • Community outreach via social media, online volunteer sign-up sites (such as VolunteerMatch), speaking at community meetings, etc. to promote service events and generate volunteers
  • Creating, editing, and posting digital content for Youth Action Project and collaborative projects
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities
  • Preparing budget requests for community outreach activities
  • Tracking volunteer information in a database, including contact information and total completed hours.
  • Preparing accurate records and reports on goals attainment
  • Coordinating and/or supporting community-benefit events and projects to recruit volunteers and coordinate service projects
  • Nurturing new and old relationships with collaborative partners
  • Assisting with online instruction, support, additional service delivery, and tracking as needed
  • Support overall programmatic goals and outcomes for the program.
  • Participate in required training (Training hours not exceed 20% of total hours), National Days of Service, and other compliance elements as outlined by AmeriCorps

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident (requires high school completion)
  • High school diploma or GED required; minimum of 48 college semesters or 60 college quarter units strongly preferred
  • Outstanding written communication, report preparation, and presentation skills desired
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to school site(s), YAP office, and meeting sites as required
  • Must be available and willing to serve occasional evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to lead events and activities while ensuring participant safety; activity may include prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and outdoor exposure

Term of Service:

  • Completion of 1200 service and training hours in the 2022-2023 academic year is required.
  • The service term begins in August 2022 and ends in June 2023.
  • Service is required Monday through Friday, 10:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and/or weekend hours being served when needed. Scheduled hours are subject to change.
  • Required participation in national days of service such as the 9/11 National Day of Service, Martin Luther King Day of Service, Cesar Chavez Day of Service, AmeriCorpsState Service Day, AmeriCorps Week

As a benefit, Members with qualifying education loans can apply for loan forbearance at the start of service through the My AmeriCorps portal, if they qualify. Full living allowance and education award amounts are based on performing the
minimum hours of the term of service and completing the program requirements.
