POSITION: VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR

POSITION VACANCY

The Bay County Sheriff's Office Jail Facility is currently accepting applications for a full-time Vocational Instructor with general residential construction experience. This will include concrete, masonary and framing work. As well as the ability to read blueprints and supervise/lead inmate work crew. Work location will be primarily be at the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Jail Facility, 5700 Star Lane.

BENEFITS

Retirement through Florida State Retirement system for all employees. $150,000 intentional act death and $50,000 occupational accidental death insurance. For full time employees: eighty-eight hours of paid holiday leave per year. Ninety-six hours of paid sick leave per year. Sick leave incentive: no use of sick leave in a calendar year earns an extra sixteen hours of vacation leave. Ninety-six hours of paid vacation leave per year. Seventeen paid military days per year. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level or performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

Confer with management to determine training objectives. Observe inmates in area of study and answer their questions. Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the inmates. Establish standards of behavior which contribute to a learning environment and encourage inmates to maintain these standards. Maintain clean and organized training areas that are conducive to learning. Thoroughly, neatly and legibly complete required forms/records. Read and comprehend textbooks, reference materials, blueprints, technical procedures, reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, handwritten text, directions for forms completion and other simple or complex documents. Communicate effectively and coherently with staff and inmates. Escort inmates to and from different areas for programs. Assist in conducting physical inventories of supplies, equipment and/or related materials. Monitor the area and make reliable visual identification of inmates, authorized personnel and other individuals to maintain safety and security.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate from an accredited college, university or vocational school preferred. Must possess or be eligible for certificate, license or other legal credentials required by state law or policy, if appropriate. Experience in the trade and/or vocational area of instruction. Applicable experience may be substituted for education up to a maximum of four years, unless prohibited by law or policy. High school diploma or GED certification. A valid Florida driver's license and a relatively clean criminal background.
