Stevenson seeks a Visual Storyteller to join our growing Communications team. Reporting to the Communications Director, this individual will be responsible for the creation of visual and written stories documenting all aspects of campus life for distribution via internal and external communications channels. The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications professional who is a talented videographer/photographer and possesses superior writing and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently. A positive attitude and enthusiasm to engage with all members of the School community are a must.

Portfolio samples will be required at point of application and a technical fluency screening will be included in the interview process. Preferred start date is January 2023. This is a 12-month/year position.

Responsibilities Include:

• Support the Communications Team in the planning, development, and execution of all Stevenson Communications projects
• Engage with school community to create compelling and timely visual content for internal and external audiences across a variety of communications platforms
• Provide video and photographic coverage of sports, performing and visual arts, and other events for use in a variety of print and digital media, including Stevenson yearbook
• Provide videography/photography support for programs and storylines as needed
• Produce high quality showcase videos for prospective students
• Manage visual projects through production process from point of request through completion, including interviews, script development, editing, and distribution
• Attend regular status meetings, working closely and productively with all members of the communications team to understand timing of all projects and ensure cohesive messaging
• Attend school events to develop content and understand culture of school
• Other duties and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Film Production, Digital Journalism, or related
• 3+ years of meaningful experience in a visual communications role
• Ability to think strategically about the school’s communications needs
• High level of creativity and skill in both videography and photography; portfolio will be requested
• Advanced ability with a wide array of video technology, video/photography editing programs such as Adobe and Creative Cloud, and other visual applications and programs
• High level proficiency with a variety of systems and platforms and willingness and enthusiasm to quickly get up to speed with others, as needed
• Strong design sense
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; writing samples will be requested
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to connect with all members of the community
• Competence and ability to work with technology including Google docs and Microsoft Office suite, and database systems, as well as content and digital asset management systems, and social media platforms
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in production
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a large library of digital visual content and graphic assets
• Ability to adhere to deadlines and clearly communicate project status and needs
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work
• Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and the integrity of all aspects of information disseminated within or external to the school community
• Working knowledge of copyright laws, image licensing, digital privacy laws, and accessibility guidelines (i.e. WCAG 2.0)
• Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Slate and WordPress
• Previous experience in an independent school setting
• Knowledge brand management
