The Napa Valley Vineyard Manager will maintain, nurture, and enhance the quality of the vineyards under their direct care and supervision. This position will lead in teaching and instructing vineyard employees in all vineyard cultural practices associated with managing multiple vineyards including providing oversight of canopy management, irrigation and fertilizer applications, pest and disease monitoring and implement treatment applications as well as vineyard redevelopment. The vineyard manager is responsible for maintaining close supervision of field crews assuring proper procedures and quality of work. They will be responsible for cost effective management of multiple vineyards in multiple locations by developing yearly budgets and farm plans from frost protection through harvest. Keeping abreast of new technologies and new vineyard mechanization techniques that will enhance vineyard and wine grape quality and reduce labor. Work within vineyard certifications and wine grape systems to exhibit wine growing practices are ecologically friendly and within those parameters.

  • Provide accurate and timely data collection, yield estimates and other pertinent information
  • Develop yearly farm plans and operation budgets.
  • Organize and write the agenda for vineyard manager meetings.
  • Manages and implements career planning and personal development of staff.
  • Manages and ensures annual performance reviews are effective and completed on time.
  • Responsible for the selection of top talent and on the job training for new hires and coaching for top performance.
  • Maintaining accurate records, justifying and tracking all purchase and labor allocation decisions, staying current on viticulture research, working on machinery and counseling employees.
  • Provide input on basic repair and maintenance procedures for the equipment assigned.
  • Stay current on new viticulture techniques and farming strategies.
  • Improve the cosmetic appearance and general farming quality of the vineyard.
  • Manages and implements the required training of team and ensures adherence to all policies, procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Responsible for training the vineyard team on hazardous material handling and safety procedures to ensure that Company safety policies are understood and adhered to by Vineyard personnel.
  • Supervise and be knowledgeable of all chemical and fertilizer usage in the vineyard.
  • Develop working relationships with winemaking and help implement strategies to achieve the quality objectives of the winery for given ranches.
  • Involvement with industry affiliates such as CAWG, Farm Bureau and others.
  • Maintain communication with FLC’s and continue to foster the relationship between TFE and all FLC’s.
  • Monitor vineyard yields and assess vineyard pruning strategies to achieve vine balance and the desired yields.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture or related field preferred
  • Years of Experience: Eight plus years’ experience in vineyard and two or more years supervising experience required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, observational skills, documentation skills, and follow-through
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, GIS)
  • Valid Drivers Liciense with clean DMV record
  • Process oriented with focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to communicate effectively and work well with other employees.
  • Work independently without Supervision, as well as part of large groups and teams.


Working Conditions:

  • May be required to work at any of TFE's locations
  • Required to operate company vehicles.
  • Numerous projects in progress at any given time
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Exposure to outside elements (heat, wet and/or damp conditions, cold)
  • Must comply with all safety equipment requirements
  • Exposure to various agriculture chemicals
  • Exposure to farming machinery
  • Long and irregular hours associated with agriculture

Extensive walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
