Position Summary

Position Overview
Developing, operating, programming, maintaining, and training on all aspects of the Knight Performance Hall’s video systems. Assist in creating great first and last impressions for everyone who enters Knight Performance Hall. Champion excellence in work and service.

What will I do in this position?
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and maintain professional video systems for events requiring the use of video systems (presentation and capture) in Knight Performance Hall. Oversee and advise on operations utilizing the Knight Performance Hall video systems, training, and internal and external director, programmers and operators.
  • Function as the in-house Video Director for events/productions that are not required to provide their own Video Director.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base and technical expertise of equipment and operations of professional video systems, including industry best practices and trends. This includes engaging in possible professional development opportunities, use of video presentation software and equipment, video cameras, video projection, video lighting, recording equipment found in professional video systems.
  • Provide professional technical integration, evaluation, support, and repairs of all components of video systems, which include operations, equipment repairs, and maintenance. Provide accurate and relevant information, assist in and oversee the setup, positioning, and strike of video related equipment for rehearsals, performances, events, and activities along with its care and storage. Respond to emergency situations as they relate to events and video systems.
  • Gather information, coordinate, and provide professional guidance to clients and staff of Knight Performance Hall in order to assist with event video presentation and capture needs.
  • Coordinate, procure, and assist with the implementation and integration of external and rental video components into Knight Performance Hall.
  • Maintain a high level of current and competent industry safety standards and practices for safe event operations.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory, maintenance schedule, and repair logs of video system components. Make recommendations and action plans for equipment maintenance, purchases, and policies and procedures for video implementation.
  • Invest into and be an active contributing member of the Knight Performance Hall production team.
  • Invest into and engage with Knight Hall student employees as well as UNW students at large. Provide guidance, supervision, training, and correction as needed.

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate the use of Knight Performance Hall video systems use with Knight Hall staff and other UNW entities to provide academic opportunities, greater flexibility, integration, and efficiency of video related resources. When possible, provide oversight, support, and training for individuals utilizing video resources in the Patsy Miller Studio Theatre.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional peer relationships with local video professionals and vendors.
  • Interact effectively with a wide diversity of people.
  • Support the Audio Systems Engineer with event logistics and event execution as needed.
  • Assist with miscellaneous department duties as requested by the Knight Performance Hall Manager, Operations Manager, or the Director of Event Services.

What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Associates and Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience with the development, operations, and maintenance of large format video systems with a minimum of 5 years of professional live video systems experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous and tactful manner
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and establish and maintain harmonious/consistent relationships with students, faculty, staff, outside customers, and technicians
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, working evenings, weekends and overtime as needed
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to give close attention to details
  • Ability to demonstrate a team attitude and approach to work
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Extensive knowledge of video equipment, low voltage wiring, and electricity
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and architectural drawings and renderings
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from heights
  • Ability to physically lift up to objects up to 60 pounds
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
