Position Objective

The Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) Vice President for Student Success (VPSS) reports directly to the College President and supports the College’s mission through the management and development of programs and support services designed to support student success. This position is the Student Success Officer and has oversight of the Division for Student Success, which includes but is not limited to the following departments and areas of responsibility: outreach, advising and counseling, enrollment services, financial aid, student disability resources, student involvement, , student conduct, Running Start, career services, Opportunity Grant/BFET, Veteran’s Resource Center, Education Opportunity Center, Hayes Child Development Center, retention, graduation, EO/Title IX, and student support-related grants. In conjunction with the College’s executive team and student success leaders, the VPSS plays a key role in developing and implementing a plan for recruiting, enrolling, retaining, and graduating/completing students.

The Vice President is a key leader in fostering an inclusive and responsive environment, maintaining a focus on excellence and equity in all student support services, and providing leadership, inspiration, management, and guidance for the College’s student success functions. The successful candidate will provide a vision for the programs that enhance the student experience at the College, collaboratively build partnerships, set benchmarks, develop best practices, and lead collaborative efforts across all divisions of the College. The VPSS plays a key role in integrating the College’s values of equity, diversity, and inclusion across the division.

Reporting directly to the President of the college, you will be working with the Executive team to collaborate across departmental units to build partnerships and work collectively to support effective operations and promote student success. As the Vice President for Student Success, you will be leading a team of department leaders who are an integral part of students achieving academic success.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Provide Leadership for the Student Success Division

  • Provide strategic and innovative vision, leadership, advocacy, and support for all Student Success departments.
  • Provide leadership that contributes to a sustained campus culture of belonging and respect for all students and employees.
  • Collaboratively develop and implement culturally appropriate outreach practices that increase recruitment, enrollment, completion, and employment of a culturally diverse student population.
  • Assess processes and procedures to ensure effective customer service, quality standards, and continuous improvement in the delivery of student success programs.
  • Assist divisional leaders in being more efficient, effective, and innovative in their approach to student success.
  • Lead and facilitate college-wide student support initiatives to improve student retention, graduation, and employment.
  • Analyze student success data, department-level learning and assessment outcomes, and engage in continuous improvement to increase desired results across demographic groups.
  • Support the growth and development of divisional leadership team members.

Management and Administration

  • Work collaboratively across CPTC’s divisions to achieve institutional priorities.
  • Supervise division personnel, including recommending new positions, hires, terminations, evaluations, and engaging staff in appropriate professional development and discipline within the College policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Participate in union management meetings and serve on collective bargaining negotiation teams
  • Develop and oversee all student success budgets.
  • Plan, develop, and direct appropriate student success policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the Student Code of Conduct is operationalized and student disciplinary procedures are executed.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the student handbook, other student information publications, and the student success portions of the College catalog.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of department plans, priorities, and objectives for the Student Success Division to support the current and changing needs of the College.
  • Oversee student Equal Opportunity and Title IX compliance in coordination with Human Resources Office.
  • Ensure that the Hayes Child Development Center is accessible and a viable option for CPTC students.
  • Collaborate with superintendents, principals, counselors, and K-12 leaders to ensure sustained partnerships within the service region.

Enrollment and Recruitment

  • Facilitate an efficient admissions process that is responsive to the interests of potential students.
  • Oversee the implementation of the EAB student success software platform.
  • Lead the accomplishment of college recruitment and retention goals.
  • Collaborate with key College staff members to develop materials and strategies to support College recruitment and enrollment plans.
  • Work collaboratively with other direct reports to implement and maintain a Strategic Enrollment Management plan to meet enrollment goals.
  • Communicate to the College community the goals, strategies, and results achieved in the College’s effort to increase student enrollment, retention, completion, and employment.

College Support Activities

  • Develop and maintain a professional image, open communication, and collaborative relationships with College stakeholders, including board members, students, faculty, staff, agencies, and key community leaders.
  • With the other direct reports, coordinate the cross-functional activities of the College to ensure an effective and efficient College operation.
  • Serve as a member of the President’s Executive Team; convene, lead and/or serve on College-wide teams as appropriate.
  • Advise the President on matters regarding students, student services, and student development.
  • Participate in the Board of Trustees meeting and other college-wide meetings.
  • Maintain memberships in state and regional professional associations.
  • Attend local, state, and national student services-related meetings, as appropriate.
  • Represent the College and/or the President at day, evening, or weekend functions; when needed, serve as acting president in the absence of the College President.
  • Be visible and engaged in campus activities.

Advance Racial Equity and Inclusion

  • Regularly review policies, hiring practices, procedures, and practices to ensure that Student Success teams support the college's equity and inclusion goals, including hiring and retaining a diverse staff that reflects the communities the college serves.
  • Collaborate with community-based organizations to broaden effective outreach and support services for low-income communities and communities of color where equity gaps exist in college-going and completion.
  • Work to eliminate equity gaps in high-wage program selection, completion, and employment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in student development, counseling, educational leadership, business or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of student affairs/services experience in a higher education environment with a record of progressively increasing responsibility in one or more of the areas this position will oversee.
  • A minimum of five years of higher education leadership experience, including supervising staff, managing budgets, and strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated evidence of promoting an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by CPTC’s students and employees.
  • Experience leading efforts to develop diversity initiatives, including recruitment and development of students and professional staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative projects between student success and academic programs and demonstrated ability to develop and use data-analytics to make strategic decisions and improve outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a two-year institution or technical college.
  • Prior work experience in outreach and retention.
