POSITION SUMMARY:

The Traveling Store Planning Specialist role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a specialized position that meets the highest standards of detail and efficiency. The role is integral in the success of several forms of projects. In a new store environment, the role will lead a small team of new store associates by teaching, training, and working alongside them to implement fixturing, merchandising, planograms, and Company culture. When in a remodel or expansion setting, the role leads and works alongside a team of existing store associates, reestablishing OSJL culture and policies as well as training on how to fixture, reset, or coordinate the movement of retail departments in an open store. This role will work alongside fellow Traveling Store Planning Specialists completing smaller projects with a quick turnaround time including, but not limited to, adding or removing fixtures, resetting store locations, and cleaning out OSJL properties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to one or multiple locations throughout the OSJL territory in the same week.
  • Assemble, disassemble and move gondolas, fixtures and furniture in a variety of store environments such as in an open store, closed store, or a new store.
  • Teach and train store associates how to stage and display merchandise utilizing OSJL guided planograms and guides.
  • Teach and train associates on OSJL merchandising and signage standards.
  • Load and unload merchandise and fixturing from trucks using a variety of different forms of electric pallets jacks.
  • Set signing to OSJL standards to include the use of a scissor lift or ladder up to heights of twenty feet.
  • Perform and meet individual and team time sensitive tasks through leadership and supervision of a team.
  • Effectively showcase the work of high performing associates on their team as well as communicate challenges faced to their supervisor or team leader.
  • Adhere to and ensure all OSJL company policies and procedures are followed, especially in regard to safety, merchandising, and signing standards.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of associates within the Store Planning department and other departments or trades working for OSJL.
  • Absorb and implement daily learnings from working closely with a supervisor or team leader to further professional development.
  • Clean out and reset fixturing areas of open stores as well as removal of all outdated fixturing throughout the OSJL chain.
  • Weekly overnight stays (usually five days and four nights at a time, but no more than six consecutive days) are required.
  • Occasional weekend stays are required.
  • Receive training on and safely utilize small tools and power tools including, but not limited to, drills, circular saws, and Sawzalls.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior retail merchandise experience in both hardlines/softlines is preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and auto insurance.
  • Licensed on various electric pallet jacks, scissor lift and walkie stacker, or be able to obtain such within the first ninety (90) days through company provided training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The role is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment varies.
  • Environment ranges from the construction phase of a new store building to updating an open store, remodeling a location, or helping existing open stores.
  • Weekly travel and some evening and weekend work is required depending on the needs of the business.
  • Responsible for physical activities including using equipment, position self to properly complete tasks, ascend and descend to heights of 20 feet or more, move and transport merchandise on a frequent basis: Should be able to lift and move 25 lbs of material on a regular basis.
  • Ability to operate a ticket gun, cut cases, lift up to 25 lbs, and display merchandise.
