Transportation Analyst Job at Blue Line Distribution
Responsible for the analysis of the inbound and outbound transportation and warehouse functions, metrics, spend and performance data and support for all company Distribution Centers. Key functions include ownership of transportation reroutes, fleet maintenance, tracking of third-party carrier spend/performance, financial reporting and analytical support for warehouse analytics metrics. This position will operate autonomously and have the authority to make business decisions and recommendations to management.
Key Responsibilities
Establish, monitor and track transportation metrics for inbound and outbound shipments, research variances and advise management of trends in metrics or recommendations.
Assist the transportation and warehouse directors and staff with design and implementation of department scorecards, monitoring and management of the CSA scorecard.
Compose, publish and analyze data sets for yearly inbound and outbound (RFP) Request for Quote transportation bids
Conduct root cause analysis on accident reports and People Net/Appian issues.
Manage third party carrier functions.
Identify and report trends in chargebacks (i.e. increased detention time, production issues, etc.); Complete monthly report on chargeback and claims events.
Support the directors of transportation and warehouse operations in exploring avenues of additional revenue generation, operations savings programs and best practices in the industry.
Recommend suggestions on reduction of maintenance and develop action plans accordingly.
Lead or guide cross-functional project teams, ensuring compliance with deadline and budgets.
Complete periodic reports on performance, metrics, fuel exposure and costs or trends as needed.
Monitor warehouse metrics (i.e. warehouse case productivity, expense control, inventory management, etc.). Tracks and reports on trends that need attention performance action plans.
Track and report on key metrics in DC transportation; creating/updating a weekly scorecard and develop performance improvements for low performing DC’s.
Support transportation and warehouse directors with administrative functions as requested.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related degree. Equivalent work experience may be considered min lieu of formal degree.
Minimum of four years (4) of experience in a freight transportation, warehouse/logistics or business management environment.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of audiences.
Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to reach decisions using sound business judgement.
Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations.
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, TMS Software platforms & routing and optimization software, etc.) with expertise in Excel and Access and ability to manipulate and extract data.
Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills that results in recommendations based on data and sound business judgement.
Proof of ability to build and maintain professional relationships that result in cohesive partnering on projects and work operations.
Previous experience in a position responsible for sensitive and confidential information.
Previous experience writing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to travel up to 10% of the time and adhere to the corporate travel policy.
This position will work in an open office environment that encourages group collaboration.
Intermittent involvement in discussions requiring reconciliation of adverse points of view.
