Eastern Gateway Community College is accepting applications for the Transition Specialist position. The Transition Specialist is responsible for managing the office at an Aspire site(s), which includes, but is not limited to, clerical duties, proctoring assessments, and assisting instructors. Proficiency in High School Equivalency Practice and Official Test material, dates, locations, and application processes, along with knowledge of High School Equivalency testing accommodations and an ability to guide students in how to apply for testing accommodations is recommended.

Hours & Terms

  • $12.50 hourly rate
  • Part-time temporary hourly position – Maximum 25 hours/week.
  • No benefits.
  • Non-bargaining unit position.
  • Hired on an “as needed basis” for one-year term, based on availability of Aspire Grant funds.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on need. Hours and location may fluctuate.
  • Morning, afternoon and evening classes are available. Summer work may be available.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct orientation, assessment, and registration procedures in accordance with Aspire guidelines.
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of a group and leading the Orientation/Registration process.
  • Submit accurate student files to the LACES data entry person in a timely manner.
  • Administer computer assessments.
  • Present PowerPoint presentation at Orientation/Registration.
  • Register students for online Distance Learning program.
  • Assist students with creating online High School Equivalency testing application and Ohio Means Jobs Backpack.
  • Works with Career Navigator and Assistant Director on career and college pathway projects
  • Establish rapport with students and maintain a friendly, non-threatening atmosphere.
  • Transitions Assistants may act as advocates, friends, advisor, confidante, supporter, or confessor. Assistants must treat these relationships as an honor, not as a burden.
  • Give encouragement and support to students who may be overwhelmed.
  • Show respect and admiration for cultural differences.
  • Be sensitive to the needs and emotions of adults who have returned to the classroom.
  • Represent Aspire in public at community events and speaking events.
  • Assist Instructor with the execution of activities planned each day.
  • Assist students with questions and documentation.
  • Advise/Register students for High School Equivalency Practice Tests.
  • Advise students on how to apply and pay for the Official High School Equivalency Tests.
  • Submit correct and thorough records, assignments, reports, and timesheets by deadlines.
  • Perform clerical tasks which include, but may not be limited to typing rosters, writing/typing correspondence, making copies, filing, and answering/returning phone calls and emails, etc.
  • Keep track of when to administer follow-up assessments.
  • Administer and score assessments or assist instructors with administering and scoring assessments.
  • Record assessment results on state forms and submit to LACES data entry personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assist Director/Asst. Director with preparation for staff meetings.
  • Attend staff meetings, and record/type minutes as assigned.
  • Attend staff development activities in accordance with Aspire grant requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information. Maintain orderly file system.
  • Maintain care of computers, copy machines, equipment, materials, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Assist instructor(s) in conducting yearly inventory of computers, equipment, and books.
  • Work as a team member and be sensitive and responsive to requests for assistance from others.
  • Make phone calls to absentee students and follow-up students and record in Contact Log.
  • Keep an accurate inventory of supplies, program forms, etc., and convey needs to Director.
  • Dress appropriately to project the image of a professional.
  • Assist with preparation for annual Graduation Ceremony, honoring High School Equivalency recipients in June/July. Attend the ceremony, and perform duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma is Required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Learn College policies and procedures.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Exercise sound judgment.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of office management techniques and modern office procedures.
