Summary

The Training Instructor will educate Customers, Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) Services organization Field Service Personnel, Channel Partners, and other employees on the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of FMD products and associated system components. In addition, the instructor will be required to maintain, update, and enhance current curriculum, and to support the development of new curriculum, training aids, and methods of instruction. The Training Instructor will be based in Chesapeake, VA. Some travel is required to provide instruction at remote locations and to attend training on product lines.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruct groups of 6-12 people with a wide range of experience and aptitude on FMD products (1- and 2-week courses) including providing Navy and Coast Guard personnel operational and routine maintenance training.
  • Maintain and develop curriculum, examinations and instructor guides incorporating lessons learned and new technologies.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and uphold FMD safe working requirements.
  • Assist with the scheduling, promotion, and sale of FMD Training to both external and internal customers.
  • Create and maintain training aids on engine line products.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks to support training.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering or Technical field preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an instructor with a focus on vocational or adult education, curriculum development, classroom management, and professionalism
  • Minimum of four years’ experience maintaining and repairing reciprocating engines
  • Preferred experience with at least one of FMD’s product lines (OP, ALCO, Pielstick or MAN).
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Travel is required to customer sites to conduct training as well as attending professional classes to expand skills and to learn licensed product line information. This travel can be up to 20% in a year.
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
