True Drilling LLC North Dakota

This is a full time position that is responsible for the safe and efficient twenty-four (24)-hour operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery used to drill oil or gas wells. Coordinates activities of the drilling crews engaged in setting up, operating, and tearing down rigs at assigned drill sites. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and monitoring all rig operations and providing daily status reports to management.
  • Implementing the rig operations safety program, as established and directed by management. Holding safety meetings, write or approve JSAs and other safety guidance documents, trains all personnel to conduct the operation safely.
  • Evaluating current procedures and practices; making recommendations to management for work improvements and rig enhancements (both service equipment and down hole); implementing decisions.
  • Working and operating within the parameters of the contracts.
  • Traveling and relocating for temporary assignments as rigs are moved; working intermittently for extended periods with minimal time off.
  • Onboarding, training, and supervising employees as necessary to keep drilling crews in continuous operations; recommending the termination of employees as necessary, including releases when rigs are stacked.
  • Directing drilling crews in setting up and operating power units, draw works, and other drilling equipment; monitoring all air-, hydraulic-, mechanical-, and electrical powered rig operation.
  • Managing the operation of both mechanical and electric drilling rigs, and able to perform all rig operations, including drilling, tripping, and fishing.
  • Operating boom line, air hoist, and cat line to lift and move heavy supplies, equipment, and pipe.
  • Moving casing or drill pipe joints to and from pipe racks, catwalk, ramp, and rig floor as required.
  • Remaining alert to underground gas pressure which may lead to blowouts; prevents blowouts by activating emergency control unit if necessary.
  • Examining drill cuttings from bottom of well to determine nature of strata; selects and changes drill bits accordingly.
  • Keeping record of supplies and chemicals used on each shift and reports to management; orders supplies, equipment, and material as needed and as authorized.
  • Monitoring drilling record; calculating (by hand or machine) mud record, bit record, drilling assembly record, and pipe tally and reports to management.
  • Supervising and assisting in performing routine and preventive rig servicing, repair, and maintenance.
  • Supervising and assisting in erecting and dismantling rigs and associated drill site systems.

Minimum requirements include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent education with seven to ten (7-10) years of prior experience on a drilling rig preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • English language fluency, verbal and written.
  • Acceptable results of a pre-employment background check, credit check and drug/alcohol test.
