Purpose

The Tool and Die Manager is responsible for all tooling related activities. The Tool and Die Manager will assist with tool build strategy, tool designs, evaluation of tooling manufacturing costs and provide recommendations to reduce costs and improve cycle times.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares quotes, reviews, and issues PO’s for purchase of steel and die components.
  • Open the facility in preparation for work to begin.
  • Supervises or may be a hands-on tool maker and works alongside team to design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products.
  • Develop and document Die Standards for Short Run Stamping tools.
  • Develop and document Die Standards for Long Run Stamping tools.
  • Oversees and plans production activities and establishes production priorities for employees in the Tool room to keep with effective operations.
  • Advisor for employees on training needs, performance goals, and promotion opportunities.
  • Provide weekly updates to management
  • Participates in design, production, and continuous improvement projects that impact multiple process segments; ensures objectives and timelines are met.
  • Work with team to reach company goals (OTD, gross margin and standards)
  • Support and foster teamwork and offer personal support to other team members
  • Develop bench strength in functional areas of responsibility
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Works with Production on set up of tools in press.
  • Ensures that the employees are working in a safe environment.
  • Complies with safety rules as outlined in Lake Air’s Safety Manual.
  • Complies with the requirements of the ISO Quality Management System and departmental procedures, and work-instructions.

Qualifications

  • A.A. or technical certificate in a Tool & Die Program preferred
  • 5+ years experience preferred in Tool & Die
  • Leadership experience
  • Possess a background or working knowledge of tool design and engineering
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office and ERP system (M1) skills
