St. John’s Westminster Learning Center is seeking a Toddler Teacher to create and provide a warm and nurturing environment, while promoting emotional, social, and physical development for children 3 - 5 years. Successful candidates must be able to relate well to children, parents, and co-workers and be sensitive to the feeling and needs of others. Candidates must have an energetic, enthusiastic, warm, and friendly personality.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

- Plan and implement an age and developmentally-appropriate play-based curriculum.

- Plan a variety of first-hand experiences to enhance and encourage children’s independence, self-help abilities, and social/emotional, as well as cognitive development.

- Establish a predictable, yet flexible schedule and environment allowing children a balance of active and quiet play, providing smooth transitions between activities.

- Listen and respond to children at their level with the utilization of positive guidance techniques.

- Encourage communication through constant verbal interactions and explanations.

- Spend class time observing, interacting, and participating in activities with children.

- Document daily care, such as feeding, changing, naps, and activities.

- Take responsibility for organizing, setting-up, and putting away materials and resources for the children’s activities before and after class.

- Maintain confidentiality of all children, families, and co-workers associated with the Center.

- Employees must attend workshops, seminars, classes, and/or observe other programs to improve teaching skills and broaden the curriculum.

- Work closely with other teachers to create a high-quality, cohesive educational program and positive workplace environment.

Required Qualifications:

- Child Development Associate Certification or Associate Degree Early Childhood Education [Bachelor Degree preferred]

- Experience developing and implementing age-appropriate, play-based curriculum

- Previous experience utilizing The Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment methods a plus

- Prior experience caring for infants and/or young toddlers

- CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease Management, and Child Abuse Recognition certifications, or willingness to obtain

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

- Teachers must be able to adapt and excel in a continuously changing, fast-paced environment, and make the children’s needs their primary focus.

- Teachers must be able to fully engage in physical activity. They must be able to kneel, stoop, sit on the floor, stand for long periods of time, and engage in activities like jumping, dancing, walking, and running.

- Teachers must have the ability to lift, hold, and/or carry children up to 40 lbs.

- Teachers must be able to see and hear well enough to monitor classrooms and playgrounds to keep children safe at all times.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $16.00 per hour
