St. Catherine University and the Access & Success team invites applications for a part- time (.75 FTE), on-campus Temporary Social Worker position.

The Temporary Social Worker serves parenting students and students having basic needs emergencies, working closely with the other social workers in the program. This position has as its primary focus the student parents in the College for Adult baccalaureate programs but will also work with other enrollment groups and other students applying for an emergency assistance grant. As such, staff in this position will conduct assessments, interventions, and case management with students and will provide one-to-one support and assist with the facilitation of support groups for parenting students. Our Social Workers keep up-to-date records, keep accurate student-parent data, and work as active members of the team.

Because support, basic needs emergencies, and retention of students are the primary focus of the Access and Success department, this position operates primarily by allowing students to drop in, email, or call when in need of assistance.

Responsibilities include:


  • Provide intensive case management support for at-risk student parents through the Keys to Degrees program.
  • Work with individual students to provide support, assessment, advocacy resources, referral problem solving, and emergency grants.
  • Provide administrative support to the program.
  • Link with college community to promote services.
  • Collaborating with Student Affairs’ colleagues and other departments when necessary.
  • Participating in group clinical supervision with LICSW clinical consultant on a monthly basis.
  • Familiarize self with community resources for referral and networking.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Valid and current Social work licensure in the state of MN or the ability to become licensed
  • Ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families, and communities
  • Excellent assessment and intervention skills
  • Proven ability to form relationships with people from diverse ethnic and cultural groups
  • Must have knowledge of issues pertinent to parenting students
  • Experience working both independently and as a part of a team
  • Proven time management and organizational skills with which to deal effectively with multiple competing tasks
  • Knowledge of appropriate boundaries and professional responsibilities
  • Knowledge of community resources and referrals


Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years related experience
  • Higher Education experience
