Technology Scientist

Fareva is currently seeking an experienced Technology Scientist to join our team in Richmond, VA.

Job Description: The incumbent is responsible for tasks associated with the technical transfer of batch manufacturing and/or packaging processes for personal care products in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. This role is also responsible for working on cross functional project teams as a technical liaison between customer R&D representatives and Fareva plant Operations and Quality stakeholders.

Primary responsibilities will center on manufacturing and processes from developmental pilots through full scale validation to current regulatory GMP standards. This position requires a strong aptitude for analytical thinking, technical writing, and good communication skills necessary for effective contribution on customer-facing teams. Other efforts supported in this role include investigative root cause analysis and CAPA recommendations, process optimization, and qualification of raw materials and packaging components.

Job Responsibilities:

Work may include projects and tasks in any or all of the following stages:

• Laboratory Bench-scale batching
• GMP Pilot scale production – Batch analyses and process optimization
• Participate on Technology Transfer sub-teams when technologies, processes or products are being transferred between commercial manufacturing sites
• Process Validation – Provide technical oversight to manufacturing and packaging operations teams; Technical writing of formal protocols and validation reports
• Investigations and Corrective Actions support
• Troubleshoot and resolve simple to moderately complex process issues, diagnosing technical problems and identifying short- and long-term solutions
• Develop and implement methods to systematically evaluate manufacturing process and equipment problems, analyze process data from equipment failures, and make recommendations to prevent recurrences
• Cost/benefit analyses
• Post-Validation Process Monitoring and Commitments
• Projects must achieve business, quality, and compliance objectives, and must be executed in a manner that assures full compliance with government regulations and internal company standards and values.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry. Other bachelor degrees may be acceptable when supplemented with technical work experience in a manufacturing or research setting.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to analyze data and translate it into meaningful conclusions
• Write clear and concise technical reports, business evaluations, process descriptions, and standard operating procedures, with some input from supervision
• Effective active listening Skills.
• Fosters open communication with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Articulates important issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical peers and to department management.
• Lean and Six Sigma concepts are preferred: Identification of process waste, SPC, risk analysis, and the measurement and characterization of process performance, etc.
• Able to operate some subset of production and laboratory equipment or instruments, such as mixers, tachometers, pH meters, etc
• Assimilates new knowledge skills, and job-related information that may vary in complexity, and applies them to work assignments in a timely manner.
