Position Summary: Under general direction of the TANF Program Manager, this position is responsible for the academic development of those students whose families are participants within the TANF program. This position focuses on working with students to develop their academic skills necessary to successfully complete grades K through 12. The Teacher will assist students in learning different subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their academic and future employment successes. The TANF Teacher/Educator serves as a liaison between schools, the parents/guardians and the youth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice and personal/collective professional development.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of self-efficacy; holds themselves accountable for student outcomes and advocates for their students.
  • Facilitates problem-solving, critical thinking through data-driven curriculum and practice.
  • Collaborates effectively with school personnel, parents, various community agencies and stakeholder groups within the organization for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum to increase student performance.
  • Invests in the students well-being, health, and safety, physically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Recognizes the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and aspires toward developing and teaching the whole child.
  • Designs and facilitates a personalized learning goals and activities that follow instructional goals, and engage students in high-level cognitive activity.
  • Responsible for the assessment of students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration. Advises parents/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teachers expectations, developing methods for improvements, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Responsible for continued assessment and success of the overall education program. Works to develop and improve systems.
  • Develops tools for data collection that provide information and reports on the status of the program.
  • Responsible for organizing program activities and events.
  • Supervise Tutors daily work responsibilities, specified in the Tutor Job Description.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree from an accredited university/college in Education or closely related field.
  • Recent teaching experience, coursework, or other activity in area of primary instruction.
  • Minimum current and active CA Credential in single subject. Credential in multiple subjects preferred.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at academic level.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines.
  • Ability to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
  • Working with varied technological sources; Microsoft Programs and other educational software.
  • Working knowledge of various office and video equipment.
  • Knowledge of Native American communities and maintains cultural sensitivity.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to work with IEPs, disabilities and behavioral plans.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires: walking, standing sitting for prolonged periods of time, climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds, raising objects overhead, manual dexterity for operation of computer, phones and small office machines, hearing, talking good verbal and written communication skills and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers.

Indian Preference:

Preference in filling vacancies shall be given first to Tuolumne Me-Wuk Community Council Members and then to enrolled Native Americans of any federally recognized tribe.
