What does this position do?

Create, organize, and evaluate University Housing and Dining's (UHD) sustainable food initiatives. Oversee the education and training of staff and students regarding topics in sustainable food including UT Farm Stand and the campus gardens. Research and connect UHD staff with new trends in sustainability. Develop and perform tracking and reporting of sustainable food metrics. Work with unit managers, dieticians, and chefs to incorporate sustainability into the menus.

What are the responsibilities for this position?

  • Oversees and advises the UT Farm Stand market and gardens through administrative oversight, inventory management, and program growth.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and manages UT Farm Stand garden manager, student workers, and sustainability interns. Provides educational outreach for residential halls, fireside chats, and campus programming.
  • Works with dining directors, managers, chefs, and dieticians to improve UHD’s sustainable food purchasing and menus.
  • Tracks sustainable food purchases and shares information and metrics with stakeholders. Manage the participation in Menus for Change.
  • Develops marketing materials to educate and broadcast UHD’s sustainability efforts.
  • Maintains UHD’s presence on campus and beyond as a leader in higher education sustainability through UHD sustainability-related meetings, committees, collaborative projects, and sharing UHD sustainability projects with media and various non-UT campus connections.

What qualifications do I need?

  • Bachelors Degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience coordinating or administering a sustainability program or similar.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

What preferred qualifications could I have?

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience with food production, farmer's markets, food procurement, education/outreach, and/or data tracking.
  • Experience managing entry-level staff and/or students.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to represent the program to the public through presentations and press inquiries.

$45,750+ depending on qualifications
