The Novelis North America (NNA) team is seeking a Supply Chain Leader. The person in this role will report to the Senior Manager Supply Chain Operations or Manager Supply Chain Operations. The Supply Chain Leader is responsible for leading, planning, and handling all aspects of the plant’s metal supply (incoming and outgoing) including tactical and long-term strategic planning. They lead and advise the work of the Plant Supply Chain team with 2-6 direct reports. The position owns metal planning management, implementing these plans in support of world class manufacturing practices with emphasis on safety, quality, production, collaboration, and cost. The position is responsible for ensuring demand and production plans are in alignment, optimizing processes and material flow for production specific to the plant supply network, and business collaborating with each manufacturing unit to implement improvement plans related to inventory, cycle time, and overall plant performance metrics. The incumbent will collaborate with the commercial and manufacturing organizations to develop a balanced demand and capacity plan as well as operating direction and coordination for material flow to other Novelis Plants and/or External Processors. In addition, they will work daily with the Plant Manager, Manufacturing Unit Managers, S&OP team, Recycling/Procurement, and Operations Planning personnel to ensure a consistent and balanced view of Plant demand and capacity.

  • Understanding demand and capacity planning of metal inputs, flow, and inventory
  • Reporting and analyzing all aspects of metal inputs, flow, and inventory positions
  • Efficiently operating, and getting results, within a matrix organization

  • Develop and lead plant supply chain team to deliver the plant key performance metrics including production, shipments (OTIF), and inventory (Cash flow)
  • Serve as a member of the Plant Manager’s leadership team representing Supply Chain
  • Lead direct reports on day-to-day activities, job duties, and in making process route changes in response to planned or unplanned outages.
  • Submit requests for creation of new routes as advised. Complete the vital transactions to change routes of material in process.
  • Ensure demand is in appropriate planning system (i.e. SAP PGS) after a planning run
  • Check daily status of materials in the planning system, anticipate delivery problems & proactively connect with Internal Customers.
  • Provide weekly estimates of on time and full delivery (OTIF), anticipate delivery misses & proactively communicate to Planner/Schedulers and Tolling Planners to prioritize and expedite orders
  • Communicate updated projected delivery dates to Internal Customers.
  • Provide daily plant updates to Senior Manager, Supply Chain Operations and/or Manager, Supply Chain
  • Take efforts to identify and dispose of obsolete inventory and seek opportunities to reapply to new orders. When found, complete within the appropriate planning systems (i.e. SAP/MES) processes to reapply
  • Following standard processes and policies, scrap material for which no uses can be found and expedite physical return
  • Proactively detect and remedy discrepancies between planning system (i.e. SAP) and physical inventory. Remedy the discrepancies and submit the appropriate tickets to IT so that the event is logged. Proactively pursue with technical organizations the resolution of quality holds so that material does not become obsolete.
  • Provide team with system transaction training, help and troubleshooting as needed
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve Supply Chain processes. Document the case for the changes and advance within the Supply Chain organization.
  • Keep logs of exceptions to allow Pareto of reasons for delivery misses and stagnant inventory
  • Work with Supply Chain team to detect and fix systemic reasons for delivery misses and stagnant inventory
  • Participate in testing of major and minor planning system (i.e. SAP) changes
Challenges of the position include:
  • Leading and coordinating a sustainable supply chain department in a modern environment that involves coordination across different corporate organizations, product lines and operating locations
  • Meeting inventory targets (cash flow) and sales objectives, while maintaining a high level of customer service
  • Influencing operational flow across the plant to improve throughput across the critical assets and become a trusted and valued resource across the plant with expertise and solutions for metal mix, flow, scrap processing, staging, improved production, quality, and cost.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, similar subject area, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of supply chain related experience in manufacturing company preferred
  • Leadership skills to direct, lead and develop team members to accomplish personal, plant, and corporate objectives
  • Leadership ability to resolved issues, involve others in problem solving/decision making activities, and create a culture aligned with Novelis cultural beliefs
  • Excellent analytical skills: ability to extract data and draw conclusions and recommendations
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization
  • Standout colleague with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Pro-active and flexible, able to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to handle multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail

  • ERP Experience, SAP an asset
  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed
