Allandale Farm is a vegetable farm and plant nursery on the border of Jamaica Plain and Brookline. For six weeks each summer, the Allandale Farm Outdoor Summer Program gives children, ages 4-13, a fun and engaging outdoor experience on a working farm in the city. Camp activities include gardening, wildlife and plant discovery, exploration of the woodlands and pond, interacting with our farm animals, and outdoor games in the beautiful, natural environment of the farm. The Outdoor Summer Program
Director is a seasonal position with flexible part-time hours in the off-season and full-time hours leading up to and during the six week summer program. The role is responsible for oversight of all functions related to the camp. The 2023 camp season will run 6/26-8/4 and consists of three two-week sessions with a 6-hour/day core program and extended day opportunities.

Responsibilities:
● Hire camp staff, including assistant director, counselors, specialists and junior counselors. Office staff provides onboarding assistance and camper registration assistance.
● Carry out administrative duties, including but not limited to: securing licensure and permitting; maintaining required logs and records.
● Oversight of the campership program including family outreach, application review, and awarding aid
● Creating and annually updating: curriculum for all age groups; forms as related to registration, camperships
● Provide camp staff training on safety, procedures, and curriculum
● Manage and be accountable to the annual budget
● Serve as point person for staff and family communication in the pre-season
● Direct and support camp staff in leading group activities and carrying out other staff duties.
● Supervise daily operations, including check-in and check-out of all campers
● Ensure through supervision and delegation:

• proper maintenance and inventory of all program equipment
• timely maintenance and preparation of all grounds and equipment related to camp operations (e.g. garden, livestock, woodland paths, etc) by coordinating with grounds team

● Maintain weekly camp records, together with leadership team
● Director will be present while camp is in session and children are present
● Ensures thorough season wrap-up, including oversight of physical clean-up and final administrative tasks
● Reports to CEO

Qualifications:
● Commitment and contribution to workplace equity and inclusion measures
● Adherence to and improvement of environmentally sustainable workplace practices
● Degree in education or similar field
● Three plus years in a leadership role in a summer camp or other equivalent program. Previous camp directorship highly desired
● Experience in farming/natural sciences/outdoor education
● Effective manager of family and camper relationships
● Experience managing a program budget
● Proven success hiring, training, motivating and retaining high functioning teams
● Able to work collaboratively and independently toward shared goals
● Able to work on the go in an outdoor setting all day
● Willingness to advance professional development and stay abreast of progressive practices through workshops, trainings, etc
● Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations and booster required for employment

Compensation:
● $30-$35/hour
