Aircon Corporation has an immediate opening for a Structural Steel Fabricator to fabricate or fit-up support steel structures and supports of Air Pollution Control Systems and Equipment in accordance with blueprints, drawings, sketches and work orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Layout/Cut and fit-up of miscellaneous metals
• Layout/Cut and fit-up of structural steel, beams, channels, angels, and support structures
• Tack Welding

• Perform and set-up and operation of equipment including, but not limited to welding machines, power tools, hand tools, punches, drill press to drill, saws, form, punch to fabricate structural steel items
• Perform miscellaneous duties and follow directions as given by supervision
• Ability to use overhead cranes to safely lift and maneuver items as required to fit
• Ability to understand, communicate and follow safety requirements as posted and directed by supervision
• Adherence to plant and safety regulations
• Meet production and quality standards
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Ability to cooperate and work well with others

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Ability to follow directions and work from verbal instructions, blueprints, drawings and sketches
• Ability to understand drawing scales and to use a tape measure and its applications with the fitter / mechanic trade
• Dependable, prompt and good attendance
• Have a high school degree or equivalent with a preference in skilled crafts and trades
• Ability to adjust, operate, and use MIG welding machines
• Operational knowledge of basic tools (grinders, saws, drills, torch, plasma, impact , etc.)
• Has at least 2 years of experience in metal working manufacturing / sheet metal fabrication.
• Basic knowledge of fitting pre-cut and formed components
• Ability to fit and tack-weld

Physical demands:

• Must have the physical ability to life and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds up to 20% of the day.
• Must have the physical ability to carry hand tools and items weighing up to 20 pounds up to 95% of the day.
• Must have the physical ability to bend and stoop under obstacles as low as 3 feet up to 20% of the day.

• Must have the physical ability to climb over obstacles 2 feet high up to 20% of the day.

• Must be able to stand and/or walk from location to location up to 95% of the day.

Personal protective equipment:
The job will require supplying and wearing safety equipment, i.e., safety glasses, gloves, boots and other PPE as required.

Also, a personal welding hood will be required.

Environment:
Work will be performed in a steel fabrication shop environment. Ambient temperatures in Memphis, Tenn.
