POSITION SUMMARY

The staff accountant will support the administrative team in the areas of finance, business planning, and budgeting. As HOMEY continues to grow and deliver quality programming, the accountant will play a critical role in the leadership team for strategic decision-making. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Budgeting

  • Assist the Executive Director in developing and maintaining annual organizational budget, incorporating expense structure, revenue mix, various programs, and other significant activities, and allocation methodology approved by the local, state, federal funders
  • Prepare individualized monthly invoices and statement for local, state, federal contracts
  • Maintain internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Review all program and organizational expenditures for accuracy and reconciliation
  • Review all financial reports and fiscal portion of organization grant submissions

Fund Management

  • Collaborate with Executive Director to forecast and estimate revenue based on projected income, past funding allocations, or new expected revenue streams
  • Facilitate process to develop expense budgets, including staff salary percentages and fringe benefit rates, payroll, direct program expenses, overhead calculations
  • Monitor and manage all expenses to ensure most effective use of assets
  • Help oversee contract management, including invoicing and reporting to funders, specifically City and County of San Francisco governmental departments

Bookkeeping

  • Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
  • Maintain the general ledger
  • Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books
  • Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks
  • Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other infnacial accounts
  • Manage accounts receivable collections
  • Verify and complete payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
  • Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
  • File tax forms with federal, state, and local governmen agencies
  • Coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommend updates to enhance the accounting software
  • Manage the purchasing and invoicing system
  • Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • Perform general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent business experience and 2 years or more of progressively responsible experience for a non-profit organization and/or business.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in areas of invoicing and/or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, particularly regarding presenting the results of budget analyses to management.
  • Should have an outstanding knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, and electronic spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Be able to work in a hybrid capacity from home and on-site (this is not a remote position and requires at least 3 days on-site)
  • Knowledge of the City and County of San Francisco accounting practices is a plus, but not required, specifically the Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF), Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development and/or other local governmental departments

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
