Job Function: Support manufacturing operation through mechanical tasks

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • 5-10 years of relevant work practice in unionized manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical aptitude to utilize hand tools, electric tools with minimal supervision
  • Assist with minor repair of existing equipment
  • Ability to perform moderate carpentry tasks(framing, finish, roofing, window replacement, sheetrock, drop ceilings, insulation, etc)
  • Assist in facility demands: snow removal, grass cutting, trash removal
  • Ability to prime, paint, and caulk wood, metal, plastic
  • Possess ability to weld stainless steel and carbon steel (stick, Mig, Tig, etc)
  • Fabricate structural steel, sheet metal transitions, piping plenums, etc
  • Ability to pipefit, thread stainless and carbon pipe to 4”, knowledge of wide spectrum of valves, fittings, hangers, etc
  • Capable of disassembly/reassembly of pumps, gearboxes, refiners, roll mills, flakers, rotating machinery to OEM specification
  • Possess skill to operate shop equipment (table saw, lathe, Bridgeport, band saw, drill press, etc)
  • Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, piping and control diagrams
  • Possess aptitude to request and complete work orders; communicate verbally and ability to read and write English
  • Working knowledge of pumps, bearings, bushings, power transmission drives
  • Working knowledge of vacuum, pneumatic, steam, cooling systems and components
  • Capacity to troubleshoot breakdowns, request parts, correct nonconforming designs
  • Work in a limited supervision atmosphere
  • Capable of extended hour commitments, perform weekend watch requirements, on call obligation
  • Comply with existing safety program and reduce current workplace hazards
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP.
  • Follow bargaining unit Labor Agreement in accordance with Company objectives.

  • Vendors of supplies and services

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to sit, kneel, stand, bend, squat, twist, and lift up to 100 lbs
  • Computer literate with standard Window software (Word, Excel)
  • Interpersonal skills to clearly communicate with maintenance coworkers, manufacturing personnel, floor supervisors, management staff
  • Detail oriented, organized, ability to multi-task assignments as needed
  • Possess valid driver’s license
  • Possess communication skills to coordinate with outside vendors, OEMs, and company representative interface
  • Mechanical aptitude to decipher root cause analysis of machinery, repair to OEM standards, document existing condition
  • Complete knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations including but not limited to lock out/tag out, hoists, electrical, guarding, fall protection, PPE, etc
  • Function with little supervision
  • Mathematical skills to compute basic math, fabrication geometry layout, distance/area and volume calculations, tolerance computation, metric and standard conversions
  • Detail oriented, organized, ability to multi-task assignments as needed
  • Possess valid driver’s license
  • Ability to interpret direction from manager for all tasks as assigned or relevant to the basic mechanic function and not limited to aforementioned description
