This is a position with the Prototype and Manufacturing Division (PMD) machine shop at NAVAIR Lakehurst. The Prototype and Manufacturing Division provides critical hardware to the fleet. We overhaul arresting engines and launch valves and are the sole source of supply for the cables used for aircraft arrestment (i.e., purchase cables and cross deck pendants), we manufacture hardware in response to fleet emergencies, and we manufacture a wide range of support equipment and test this equipment appropriately. We are the sole source of supply and last source of supply for critical hardware that is essential to Navy Fleet operations.
PMD produces a large range of machined components from small components approximately one inch in size to large frames and equipment bases that are over 30 feet long. This particular position would involve the operation of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and various electric and pneumatic hand tools. Responsibilities:

This particular position would involve the operation of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and various electric and pneumatic hand tools.
- 10 years+ experience with CNC set-up and operation at a level that would be obtained working in a machine shop and/or through a vocational school program.
- Strong understanding of Fanuc control systems
- Understanding and programming skills of MasterCam
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and prints.
- Ability to operate equipment based on oral instructions.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools to confirm work piece dimensions.
- Sufficient math skills to calculate distances, angles, take-offs, etc.
- GD&T certification is a not manditory, but nice to have
- Work history and understanding as outlined above
- All candidates must pass a CDL physical before being hired with annual retest and they must have the ability to lift 50 lbs (more is preferred). Safety shoes are required on the first day. Safety glasses will be provided.
- All candidates must be US Citizens and must be able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance (IPKeys will sponsor).
- MasterCam experience is a huge plus
- Experience operating manual and CNC machines in a manufacturing environment. This experience shall include the setting up of jobs including the selection and mounting of vises, selection of correct cutters, properly setting machine operating and feed speeds, and related tasks.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery from setup to operation to produce parts and tools from various metals, plastic, or other materials.
- Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed to perform a job.
- Ability to produce precision parts with close tolerances.
- Experience performing CNC programming is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or a G.E.D
- Qualified candidates must be able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance (IPKeys will sponsor).
