SUMMARY

The RI Special Education Teacher will provide high quality classroom instruction and support to students with disabilities and whose needs can best be met in a structured ESD classroom program.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certification with Special Education endorsement
  • Preference given to EI endorsement in special education or have training with emotional impairments and in positive behavior interventions and supports
  • Meet applicable requirements found in R340.1781 through R340.1783

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Plans curriculum and lessons and utilizes effective and relevant teaching strategies, methods, and practices to enhance the student learning environment
  • Evaluates and monitors student’s progress through a variety of tools in various settings
  • Ability to utilize the standards of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) in daily instruction
  • Must be efficient at creating and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and using data to inform instruction
  • Prepares and communicates student progress using report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans and other documents
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community
  • Participates in MET evaluations and meetings, IEP development and implementation and meetings related to program operation
  • Maintains the physical environment of the classroom and effectively manages student’s health, personal care, and safety needs
  • Direct the work of classroom paraprofessionals
  • Will work collaboratively with staff and agency personnel to maintain the standards of individual student behavior
  • D emonstrate proficiency in the use of technology and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and written
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is required
  • Perform other duties deemed necessary and appropriate as assigned
  • Valid driver license
