NCS is looking for a detail-oriented Solar Permitting Specialist with some experience in the industry. The Solar Permitting Specialist is responsible for assisting the Development Team in the successful management and completion of solar projects by ensuring that milestones and deliverables are met through the life of the project. The Solar Permitting Specialist should be able to keep track of multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of development and construction. This person will primarily focus on the permitting portion of each solar project but must be willing to learn and cover as needed the interconnection portion of the solar project's development. This position reports to the Program Manager.


Job Duties

  • Manage permitting processes with all authorities having jurisdiction to include applying for, tracking and managing the review of building permits, public space permits, tree removal and trimming permits and others as required by the solar installation.
  • Review permit list and see what permits are ready to be issued and submitted and proactively manage that process with relevant project manager.
  • Be able to manage interconnection and permitting portion of upwards of 40 projects in various stages of development with counterparties on the team.
  • Familiarize self with relevant codes and regulations in which the company is developing projects, to include Washington, D.C., Prince George's County, MD and Montgomery County, MD.
  • Complete research into new jurisdictions' requirements through internet searches, phone calls and email inquiries.
  • Serve as a resource to Project Management team, Engineering team and Sales team regarding rules and requirements for applications and construction, including both AHJ requirements and utility requirements.
  • Meet weekly with Project Management team to cover status of and necessary next steps for project development.
  • Identify common issues in processes and develop suitable solutions in consultation with the Utility and Regulatory Affairs Team.
  • Update notes in an internal database and spreadsheets for all related tasks and manages project status changes
  • Follow up on inquiries about project status in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Act as a last backstop for reviewing plan sets before submission to AHJ
  • Work with other team members to develop and update Standard Operating Procedures
  • All other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous experience in solar permitting.
  • 2 years work experience
  • Ability to coordinate with a team and problem solve with others.
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills
  • Must be able to solve problems on the fly, have fantastic people skills, and be a great communicator (oral and written)
  • Must be able to legally work in the U.S. and pass a background check
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite


Preferred Experience

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Solar interconnection experience
  • Experience with a CRM database
