SOCIAL SERVICES DIVISION
The Health and Human Services Agency’s Social Services Division strives to improve the quality of life for the residents of El Dorado County. They help residents meet basic needs and ultimately become self-sufficient by offering the following services: CalFresh, CalWORKs, General Assistance and employment services. Social Services also provides both Adult and Children’s protective services. Child Protective Services helps to identify, treat and reduce child abuse and neglect, and to ensure reasonable efforts are made to protect and maintain children in their homes.

ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES & IN-HOME SUPPORT SERVICES

The Social Services Aide position for Adult Protective Services and In-Home Supportive Services is a front line intake position where the position is often the first contact individuals have with the programs. In support of Adult Protective Services, this position will receive reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation, document accordingly and participate in a triage process to determine the next steps including potential urgent/emergent response. In support of In-Home Supportive Services, the position will also conduct the initial screening calls with applicants to begin the process of determining an individual's eligibility for the program.


THE OPPORTUNITY

Use your skills and knowledge to assists Social Workers by performing paraprofessional tasks related to the improvement of family functioning and child and adult services.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:


  • Complete narrative reports regarding a client's condition and services provided and/or recommended.
  • Enter data regarding case and client information and contacts into automated system.
  • Make client referrals to medical personnel or Social Workers as needed.
  • Provide direct training and coaching on parenting and household management skills, and teaches families about nutritional meal preparation, budgeting, and household care.
  • Monitor the medical and psychological care of children in foster care.
  • Provide coaching that supports families to meet the unique needs of each child during their family time; document observations into the automated system and reports said observations to the Social Worker.
  • Provide emergency child care.
  • Transport or accompany clients to appointments for service or interviews.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to working specifically and predominantly with the older and dependent adult populations; be an active, engaged individual with strong social services customer service skills; collaborate professionally with all County and community partners (i.e. law enforcement, hospitals, etc.); demonstrate solid organizational and computer skills with a high attention to detail, is able to work independently as well as part of a team and is someone who asks questions, make suggestions and knows when it is appropriate to take the initiative.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications. Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Education and Experience:
Sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units of college, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human service, sociology, or other social or behavioral science*;
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience providing direct social services support to individual clients and families in a public or private setting to disadvantaged adults or children;

  • Examples of acceptable social or behavioral science courses include: anthropology, criminal justice, ethnic studies, human development, human services, psychology, social welfare, and sociology.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Human Resources Department will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

A written exam will be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking and placement on the eligibility list. The online examination has been tentatively scheduled for 01/04/2023. If it is determined that you meet the minimum qualifications and are therefore eligible to participate, you will be notified by email at least one week prior to the examination.

If you have taken this examination within six (6) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, your score will automatically be transferred to this exam and you are not permitted sit for this examination. If you have taken this examination from greater than six (6) months but within twelve (12) months prior to the scheduled date of the examination, you may elect to transfer that examination score or sit for the examination again; you must contact Human Resources prior to the scheduled exam date to request that your previous score be transferred.

A transferred examination score does not guarantee passing the current examination administration. Examination pass points are set in accordance with the EEOC Uniform Employee Selection Guidelines.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Social Service Aide. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. Extra help employees are not considered regular employees, therefore do not attain civil service status, and do not receive benefits or paid leaves; however, they do accrue sick leave consistent with the law.
