Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Student Life Specialist I is responsible for the administration of one or more Student Life program(s). Serves as liaison between the program and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.

Additional Department Summary: The Coordinator of Academic Partnerships and Student Engagement works under the mission and vision of Residential Communities. Works cooperatively with the Residential Communities staff (Area Coordinators, GCDs, RAs, DAs) to develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive programming and leadership plan for students living in Residential Communities.

Coordinates and develops opportunities for residents to connect with each other and engage in University sponsored learning experiences. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with Living Learning Community partners, Faculty in Residence, Division of Student Life colleagues, and other campus partners (faculty, staff, and students). Advises residential student organizations.

Ensures that the residential student experience includes opportunities to excel academically, develop personally, and provides examples of a healthy campus community. Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with various departments and campus partners, in order to offer meaningful involvement opportunities, programmatic approaches, and co-curricular events that address the academic, developmental, and engagement needs of residents.

Plans and implements yearly Living Learning Community (LLC) institute for current LLC partners, potential LLC partners, Faculty in Residence, and Residential Communities staff members. Collaborates with Faculty in Residence and LLC partners to assist with developing intentional plans of outreach and involvement within their respective Residential Communities. Executes the recruitment and selection process for any vacant or new Faculty in Residence positions.

Works with the Assessment Coordinator to perform, analyze, summarize, and present assessment regarding the co-curricular involvement, well-being, sense of community, rate of retention, persistence, and academic success of the residents within each of the Residential Communities. Assists in the Training and Professional Development Coordinator with educating student staff on aspects related to Student Engagement.

Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of student development and organizational theories. Ability to work with faculty and/or academic affairs.

Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Student Personnel, or related field. Experience advising student organizations.
