Position Description:

This position requires experience with lab-based physics and chemistry and the requisite science and math content knowledge. The content is advanced and while comparable to high school, these are foundational classes not intended to replace the physics and chemistry courses students will take in high school.

The school is looking to fill this position as soon as possible.

This full-time position includes 24 classes per week, as well as some lunch, recess, and dismissal supervision.

Differentiation in the classroom is expected. Ability to teach a variety of learning styles is essential. Class sizes are small, averaging 10-12 students.

Hands-on labs and engaging content delivery are hallmarks of the school’s middle school science experience.

Additional compensation for Science Olympiad coaching, which takes place after school one day/week.

All teachers are expected to participate in ongoing curriculum and DEI work, which are key focus areas this school- year.

Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational, not-for-profit day school in Des Plaines, Illinois serving 277 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. SAA educates gifted children in an academically differentiated and enriched environment while recognizing the unique development of each child. Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree; gifted education coursework
  • Illinois Teaching Certification (or proof of in-process)
  • At least three years of teaching experience
