Title: Set Up A – KSTH (Tool Grinding Technician)


Normal Work Location: Tech Hub


Normal Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 7am - 3:30pm / As Needed

Position Summary

Responsible for the production, inspection, and processing of special, prototype, development, and high-performance products produced in the KYOCERA SGS Tool Tech Hub. This position will work with advanced CNC Tool and Cutter Grinders to create high quality, extremely precise, and technically advanced special, prototype, and modified cutting tools. This position will also be responsible for the regrinding and reconditioning of incoming products within the facility


Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for maintaining product production goals and quality within assigned work area
  • Responsible for the quality and documentation of all work produced and functions within the department
  • Be well versed in the manufacturing of all varieties of round shank cutting tools and standards
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of specifying the geometric features of advanced cutting tools
  • Assess machine operations; movement of parts, gauges, dials, machine sounds to determine optimal performance
  • Troubleshoot equipment; modify programming parameters to resolve any operational problems
  • Interpret drawings, and/or item attributes and follow routings
  • Perform in-process inspections of tools produced as required and receive quality verification from QA
  • Maintain product specifications by utilizing the appropriate inspection equipment as required
  • Maintain and adjusts machine feeds and speeds to meet all routed times
  • Have knowledge of specifications and proper use of diamond wheels, and ability to properly dress, maintain, and balance wheels as required
  • Be able to use machine specific software programs as required
  • Troubleshoot and correct set up problems, and have full knowledge of all tooling required
  • Complete all job-related paperwork and shop floor data collection accurately
  • Adhere to all aspects of the Quality Management System
  • Adhere to safe operating procedures as required by specific standards related to the equipment
  • Properly documents activities accurately and satisfactorily complete all varieties of documentation required by management
  • Assist with keeping safety and work rules and regulations, and departmental housekeeping standards
  • Assist with the compliance of OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Maintain good communication within department, shifts, and management

  • Maintain tooling and manufacturing supplies as needed.
  • Meet all training and educational requirements as specified by department, work cell and/or location.

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Technical school training or certification ideal.

Other Qualifications Desired

Training & Experience

  • Two years of CNC and/or previous tool grinding experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of decimal and metric system, basic mathematical application.
  • Working knowledge of micrometer, precision scale, indicator, and other required test/inspection equipment.
  • Mechanical background/aptitude strongly desired.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work in a high paced environment
  • Analytical and data processing capabilities are required
  • Must have outstanding time management and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills are required, with an understanding of documentation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products and basic computer software

Visual Acuity: Ability to read machine dials, computer screens, mechanical/tool drawings and precision measuring devices with or without reasonable accommodation.


Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify changes in order to take appropriate preventive action with or without reasonable accommodation.


Working Conditions: Well lit, climate-controlled manufacturing environment with moderate-loud noise levels. Position subject to occasional light to medium lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and bending. Constant use of upper extremities with frequent gripping motions and wrist deviations. Occasional reaching above shoulder height, below the waist or lifting as required to retrieve and store raw materials and finished product. Position requires continuous standing and walking. Position frequently handles sharp cutting tools. Skin exposure to oils and cutting/grinding fluids with minimal exposure to fumes, dusts, mists.

  • Associate is required to follow other job-related duties, subject to all local, state, and federal laws and applicable regulations.
  • The associate must successfully perform all requirements of the position training plan.

When overtime is scheduled, it is mandatory.
