Responsible for providing safety support within the Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene (OS&IH) Division.
Responsible for administering and enforcing the Occupational Safety program for security police force operations
Develops, implements, and administers methods for accident prevention in close coordination with management and supervisory personnel.
Advises Company personnel, DOE, and user agencies on matters concerning occupational safety, safety codes, and accident prevention programs.
Plans and coordinates the development and implementation of training, instruction, and individual course studies for field supervisors and may conduct these sessions.
Examines plans and specifications for construction and equipment operations to ensure all occupational safety precautions have been included.
Inspects work sites to identify potential or existing job hazard and investigates violations of safety codes and regulations.
Investigates accidents, including those involving vehicles, to determine relevant causes.
Recommends changes in equipment and processes to correct unsafe conditions.
Directs enforcement of occupational safety regulations and prohibits work in unsafe conditions.
Prepares and publicizes safety reports, bulletins, codes, and studies.
Provides resource and interpretation for all applicable occupational safety codes, standards, and technical development.
Develops and administers accident and statistical reporting systems and documentation procedures.
Accept individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and quality processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply with established regulations and procedures for environment, safety, health, and quality and perform duties in a way that will not cause personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environment, safety, health, and quality regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision. Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 5 years of related occupational safety experience.
- Must possess thorough knowledge of safety regulations and be able to keep up with changes.
- Attention to detail, and high degree of accuracy required in writing technical documents and ensuring all Company policies and procedures are followed.
- Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports, and accomplish goals where established procedures may not be specific.
- Must be highly organized and able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the organizational unit.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills to promote accident prevention, conduct field and accident investigations, and coordinate the development and implementation of new or revised safety procedures and techniques.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
- Able to remember/recall extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
- Able to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, complains, frequent interruptions, and time constraints..
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $92,102.40- 138,153.60
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
