Job Description
Senior Research Associate will assist in project development, management, and support for the Natural Resources Institute’s Military Land Sustainability and Wildlife Conservation programs including applied research and natural resources management projects on public and private lands.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare proposals, work plans, and project deliverable documents including progress reports, final reports, procedures and methodologies, and project presentations.
- Perform professional technical, administrative, and managerial research work. Performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.
- Prepare proposals for funding agencies, operation of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research.
- Design, plan, conduct and manage applied research and natural resources management projects.
- Assist with the planning development and implementation of projects including budgets and contracts as needed in addition to managing budgets of applied research and natural resources management projects.
- Coordinate project activities including creating project teams, fieldwork logistics, supervising subcontractor work, and monitoring project goals in assuring scope of work requirements are met.
- Coordinate with project representatives from governmental agencies including the Department of Defense, US Fish and Wildlife Service, multiple State Fish and Wildlife Agencies, and other federal or state agency representatives as needed.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data.
- Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
- Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and clientele-oriented publications.
- Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects.
- Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
- Assist in supporting other projects by conducting fieldwork, technical writing support, or other duties as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in soil science, hydrology, botany, biological science, wetland or terrestrial ecology, or a closely related field.
- Four years of related experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in project management.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Location:
- Work will occur on Moody Air Force Base (MAFB), near Valdosta Georgia. MAFB encompasses over 5,518 acres of land while the adjacent Grand Bay Range occupies 5,874 acres of land.
