Position Summary: The Colorado & Southwest Senior Project Manager is part of an experienced, dedicated and fast-paced team of conservation real estate professionals producing tangible, lasting conservation and outdoor recreation results across Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. The person in this position will develop relationships with key local, county, state and federal agency partners, private landowners and other parties to protect or acquire and convey priority park, scenic, wilderness and other open space lands. While the person in the position will focus primarily on work in Colorado, there may be opportunities to work on projects in the other Four Corner states.

The ability to work independently is highly valued. Tasks include developing a pipeline of projects while also closing conservation deals that advance TPL’s mission and fundraising goals. The person in this role will also assist with strategic planning, public relation strategies, fundraising, and contributing to the internal and external impact of TPL. The position will be located in Denver unless otherwise approved.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
  • Researches, selects and develops potential conservation and outdoor recreation projects.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key local, county, state and federal agency partners.
  • Conducts research and determines negotiation strategies for all phases of land and water acquisition projects.
  • Understands and pursues public funding through local, county, state and federal conservation, open space and parks and recreation programs.
  • Manages projects by coordinating all aspects leading to a successful acquisition and conveyance of property or interests in property. This includes contracting for and reviewing appraisals and environmental assessments, reviewing title and other legal documents, and following internal approval processes, including preparation of project memos, reports, maps and photos, and other administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings, strategic planning sessions, budget preparation, development and fundraising efforts and project strategy discussions.
  • Assists overall external affairs and public relations efforts by introducing TPL to public agencies, other conservation organizations, elected officials and the public.
  • Directs and assists land protection team support staff in their work on project-related tasks.
  • Stays abreast of land and water protection and conservation techniques, best practices and new opportunities by reading, attending public forums, and identifying and participating in training opportunities.

INTERACTION WITH OTHERS
  • Interacts with external professionals who are involved with buying and selling land: surveyors, lawyers, planners, appraisers, landowners and elected officials.
  • Should be comfortable with public speaking and with representing TPL to the public at outreach events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6-10 years of project related experience, more than half of which should be with a non-profit land conservation organization. Familiarity with the Colorado market is a plus.
  • Consistent high level of performance and creativity.
  • Ability to work independently and initiate, structure, negotiate and close conservation and outdoor recreation real estate projects.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy travel. Evening and weekend work on occasions.

As a full-time exempt employee, you will be eligible for Trust For Public Land’s comprehensive benefits program, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, vacation, 10+ holidays and a 403(b) retirement plan, currently with an up to a 7% company match. We offer competitive salaries, commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $85,000-95,000.
