Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Revenue Manager to join our Accounting team. You will provide leadership for the revenue accounting team, own the revenue close process and support our continued growth.

Our ideal candidate will be a revenue professional who enjoys analyzing data, is systems-savvy and has a strong understanding of public company revenue accounting guidance. In this capacity you will manage Sumo Logic's revenue operations, which includes monthly closing of revenue, A/R and provisioning, while ensuring timely and accurate recording and reporting of revenue. You will have a dual focus on (1) enhancing current processes within the revenue accounting team and collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and (2) further automating and scaling the business to support the growth of the company. As an ideal candidate, you possess experience with multiple arrangements, complex revenue transactions, can think strategically on a process, operational and systemic level, and are also comfortable getting into the details

This position reports directly to the Senior Director, Revenue Accounting, and has high visibility with the Corporate Controller, Chief Accounting Officer and Chief Financial Officer, and is remote-friendly.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Manage all aspects of day-to-day accounting and operations of order-to-cash and revenue cycle, from order management, invoicing and collections, provisioning to revenue recognition issues
  • Build and implement scalable processes to identify and document revenue considerations, while still maintaining strict internal controls.
  • Create efficiencies in accounting processes by implementing technology solutions and automation.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners on new initiatives to proactively consider impact on revenue operations processes and cross-functionally (e.g. deal desk, sales operations, sales finance, operations, IT and legal) to provide revenue guidance in the deal review process as well as build more efficient processes and operationalize more effective systems as we continue to scale our business.
  • Determine proper accounting treatment in accordance with the Company's revenue recognition policy based upon the interpretation of customer contracts.
  • Oversee the team in preparation of revenue related monthly close activities. Prepare/review accounting journal entries, monthly reconciliations, flux analysis.
  • Assist with ad hoc requests from FP&A, internal reporting, and others.
  • Liaise with external auditors, present significant updates and prepare supporting documentation for the quarterly reviews and year-end audits
  • Drive ad-hoc and business critical revenue accounting projects through to completion.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS


Education
BA degree in Accounting
CPA certification a strong plus

Experience

  • 10+ years progressive work experience within the finance operations and accounting organization, preferably within a high-growth environment. SaaS experience a plus.
  • Previous people management experience in Finance/Accounting is essential.
  • Big 4 and / or public company experience a plus
  • SalesForce, Zuora and NetSuite experience a plus



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of revenue accounting guidance (ASC 606) and ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-aAccountants
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills and attention to detail

  • Multi-tasking and time management skills, upbeat demeanor, and ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment and work with a sense of urgency
  • Strong system and data flow knowledge. Ability to learn and adapt to new process flows and software technologies. High proficiency in advanced MS Excel including Pivot Tables and V-Lookups
  • Team-oriented approach – can participate as an effective team member as well as work cross-functionally with other organizations

The expected annual base salary range for this position is $161,000 - $192,500. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors which include (but aren't limited to) such as role level, skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, location, and experience. In addition to base pay, certain roles are eligible to participate in our bonus or commission plans, as well as our benefits offerings, and equity awards.
