SUMMARY
This position will function for the GRS network. Responsibilities will include development and implementation of a car repair billing system and perform predictive analysis that will provide optimal business performance utilizing data. This leader will drive initiatives by monitoring the health of the business, working to identify pain points, identify opportunities for continuous improvement to current programs and processes, and assist in developing key initiatives ensuring continuous quality and safety improvement, as well as compliance.
This position is responsible for developing specifications and functional requirements for new and existing processes, in collaboration with entity project stakeholders and other development staff, including IT, finance and operations.
This position must understand both the overall business objectives and the day to day business requirements and develop design solutions to meet these needs. This position is first and foremost an operations position dealing largely with process evaluation and improvement, the development and management of KPI scorecards and overall performance tracking for GRS. This position will also work in a project management capacity, assist with the development of reports, presentations and other related materials.

  • Knowledge of AAR/FRA railroad interchange rules. AAR Office and Field Manual knowledge is a requirement.
  • The successful candidate will have knowledge and skills encompassing statistical analysis and must be capable of guiding teams around complex analysis to influence data driven results for reliability and predictability.
  • Work to develop strategies to improve reliability and reduce breakdowns in the system.
  • Be an active participant to influence initiatives, and efforts towards continuous improvement and employee engagement.
  • Must be able to think outside the box to leverage all avenues to resolution when implementing solutions.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with leaders of field operations to improve operational quality, safety, efficiency and finance.
  • Provide feedback to locations through quality audits, reports and data, and collaborate to form follow-up action plans for improving processes across specific shops as well as the network.
  • Schedule follow-up audits to ensure action plans are being properly implemented and track improvement.
  • Conduct front end analysis of business system requirements for a system project.
  • Document business system requirements, including process flow charts, current state, future state, and gaps.
  • Work with internal and external resources and operations in developing reports that will assist in managing and improving the business.
  • Translate high-level business processes into functional system requirements.
  • Work with Project Management to document system and project scope.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing business system application processes and work flow and work with entities to streamline and improve system processes.
  • Evaluate, identify and communicate business benefits within specific system projects.
  • Document and work with Entity management to prioritize system functionality changes.
  • Adhere to project objectives, timelines and budget.
  • Develop, document and oversee execution of project test plans.
  • Work with Project Manager and Program Managers to coordinate migration of projects from testing phase to production phase.
Experience & Education
  • Requires BA/BS in Business Management / Information Technology or equivalent combination of skills, experience and education with an emphasis on Data Analytics. Advanced degree is helpful but not required.
  • Working knowledge of freight car repair shops, wheel shop operations and freight car parts manufacturing required.
  • At least 3-5 years business experience is required.
  • Basic understanding of system and application development life cycle and software implementation methodologies is required.
  • Experience must include direct client interaction, development of detailed system requirement specification, and successful partnering with management and technical staffs in a cross-functional environment.
  • Requires advanced problem solving skills, along with a demonstrated ability to outline and organize complex business processes into simplified steps and common language.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to work in cross functional / matrix organizations with a constant focus on customer service.
  • Ability to travel up to 60%.
