JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs skilled work regularly involving the operation of specialized fairway mowers, street sweepers, forklifts and similar equipment; at times, work may be performed independently from the larger crew; and performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with other departments, divisions, and residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Operates hydraulic 9-unit fairway mower or small tractor with skip-loader and grader. Operates

a forklift, riding mower, dump truck and does finish grading with tractor.

Operates street sweepers on regularly scheduled routes: cleaning streets, carport and parking areas; operates a forklift as the regularly designated crewmember operator.

Sr. Equipment Operator performs the following functions for the Relandscaping Crew:

Under direction of foreman or lead, plans landscaping tasks to ensure adherence to specifications and plan design; plants, cultivates, fertilizes, and waters ornamental plants, shrubs, and hedges; trims trees and shrubs from the ground and on ladders; installs sod, waters, and applies fertilizers and non-restrictive chemicals.

Operates and drives a variety of landscaping equipment.

Repairs and builds planters, mortarless wall systems, mortarless paver systems and damaged or obsolete landscapes.

Follows up on assigned written resident complaint requests, corrects problems, discusses with resident or refers to a supervisor-noting disposition.

Sr. Equipment Operator performs the following functions for Golf Course Maintenance:

Under general supervision, performs skilled tasks involved in the care and maintenance of the golf course; install, cuts and various portions of the golf course such as Greens, Tees, Fairways, Roughs, and sod; prunes small trees, slopes, and improves flower beds.

Operates and drives a variety of landscaping equipment.

Loads and unloading various materials such as sand, gravel and soil.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Trains others on regularly assigned equipment, cleans and routinely services assigned equipment. Assists crews in general work as required.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Front loader dump truck and multi-axle trailer, truck, crew carrier, street sweepers, tractors, small tractor with skip-loader and grader, forklifts, riding mowers, gas trimmers, vacuums, sod cutters, hand-held spray equipment, soldering iron, small and large trenchers, ax, pulasky, shovels, sod cutter, hand tools, jack hammer, chainsaw, concrete saw, and Fairway mowers, various Rough mowers, riding as well as walking Greens mowers, Tee mowers, aerifiers, topdressers, rollers, various tractors, small dump truck and utility vehicles.

Regular attendance required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to dust, fumes and normal outdoorelements. Does not work in extreme inclement weather.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education development which produces the ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to the carrying out of oral or written instructions and experience in operating light and medium weight equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:

· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.

· Knowledge of the operating characteristics of medium to heavy-duty mower or public works maintenance and construction equipment.

· Knowledge of the field maintenance requirements of assigned equipment.

· Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations.

· Ability to make minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment.

· Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the area of assignment.

· Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

· Ability to maintain simple records.

· Ability to pass respiratory pulmonary function test.

· Ability to pass qualitative and/or quantitative respirator fit test.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid Class A commercial motor vehicle operator's license when assigned to operate the street sweeper or to pull trailer rated over 10K gross pounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk (up to 4 hours), stand and use repetitive motion (up to 2 hours), talk, hear, and to use hands to finger, grasp, kneel, pull, push, stoop, balance, climb, crouch, and lift and carry up to 20 lbs. The employee is regularly required to walk for periods of up to 6 hours. The employee is occasionally required to carry and lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, pull, push, stoop, work on ladders up to 8 feet.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee reads, solves problems, uses his verbal & written communication skills, and has frequent customer contact.
