Description of Job

The normal duty hours of this position are Tuesday to Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This position is located in the Electrical Shop in the Facilities Services Department at the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC). The purpose of the Electrical Shop is to provide daily operations, maintenance and services for campus electrical, elevators, electronic lifts, compressors, and electronic door openers for the Auraria Higher Education Center and our partner institutions of Higher Education on the Auraria campus. This is accomplished through in house new system and component installation/replacement, scheduled maintenance, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, management of subcontractors and vendor installations and ongoing system repairs and enhancements.

The Electrician II is a skilled trade worker, Journeyman Electrician, responsible for a full range of skilled electrical work in the installation, repair and maintenance of campus electrical systems. This includes but is not limited to building electrical systems, building and campus power generation, all elevator and conveyance systems, people lifts and/or ADA lifts, cathotic protection systems, campus lighting systems both interior and exterior to buildings, and automatic doors on the Auraria Campus. On specific projects, work may involve coordinating with other work units/departments and coordinating the work of other skilled trades’ workers. Position makes decisions based upon sound electrical, electrical code, operating and maintenance practices. Please note, we will provide training on elevator and electronic door opener maintenance.

Additionally, this position will coordinate day to day activities including planned and unplanned events, corrective, preventative and scheduled maintenance endeavors per the manufacturer recommended frequencies, elevator permitting and operating requirements, installation oversight and annual initiatives for the electrical work unit. This includes project design reviews; electrical system documents and records management, updates and creation; quality control oversight of contractors; and management of all assigned work orders and projects.

As an AHEC Electrical Trades II, this position performs the following:

ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE
  • Performs electrical preventive, Operations and Maintenance (O&M), Chargeable and Corrective Maintenance on all campus electrical equipment including but not limited to distribution switch gear, transformers, motors, controls, protective relays, fuses, circuit breakers and other components of the campus electrical power systems.
ELECTRICAL SERVICE
  • Performs electrical services in campus buildings including maintaining and repairing electric hand dryers, automatic door openers, elevators, compressors, transformers, motors, controls, protective relays, fuses, circuit breakers and other components related to the electrical power systems. Install outlets, switches, wiring and related components on an as needed basis.
  • Operates, maintains and repairs time clocks and other time control devices/systems.
SIGNAGE AND LIGHTING SERVICE
  • Maintains and repairs campus lighting systems by inspecting systems by inspecting buildings and grounds for outages.
  • Replaces lamps, ballasts, sockets and wiring.
  • Repairs streetlights and campus lighted signage.
  • Maintains lighting inventories and records for assigned buildings.
CAMPUS SUPPORT
  • Assists Supervisor with maintenance of medium voltage infrastructure.
  • Survey transformers, PMH switch, distribution equipment to include man holes for accuracy of campus one line, physical condition and maintenance needs.
  • Assists other maintenance Journeymen when needed.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned, supporting campus initiatives, participate in snow removal activities.


Additional Duties:
Perform such other duties as are assigned from time-to-time by the direct supervisor and members of the AHEC leadership team.


Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.
  • Current Colorado Drivers License.

CONDITIONS of EMPLOYMENT
  • The person selected for this position must maintain their ability to perform the physical demands of this position which include physically manipulating and moving tools, equipment and supplies in excess of 35 lbs on a frequent basis as well as 20 to 50 lbs (occasionally).
  • The person selected for this position must maintain their ability to stand for long periods of time as well as kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and grab in the performance of job related duties
  • Must be willing and able to withstand exposure to sights, sounds and smells associated with electrical trades work.
  • Must be willing and able to be exposed to adverse weather while performing electrical repair and/or maintenance activities
  • Must maintain the ability to independently travel using a vehicle in the performance of job-related duties.
  • Must be available for 24-hour callback when needed by the organization
  • This position is tasked with the responsibility for responding to events and emergencies affecting the electrical distribution system at AHEC (when requested by senior leadership)
  • This position must be willing and able to work an alternate work schedule during planned outages.
