JOB SUMMARY:

You are an experienced and passionate Healthcare Security Officer. As a Healthcare Security Officer, you will undertake the surveillance of our Client’s healthcare premises and the protection of their staff, members and visitors. You will detect and prevent any suspicious activities, assist in incidents of disaster, report incidents, uphold order, write detailed reports and provide customer service in a friendly and professional manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide an atmosphere in which all Client staff, members and visitors know that the Client responds to and cares about their needs; provide a courteous, respectful and pleasant interaction with each client staff, member and/or visitor; presents a good image of BCI, the Client and its Security Department. Maintain and display good public relations skills when interacting with staff, members and visitors

· Monitor and control access of facility building entrances and vehicle gates and when necessary, prevent unapproved or unlawful entry. This includes monitoring remote entrances using closed circuit television or traffic control duties

· Observe and watch for signs of crime or disorder and report any suspicious/unusual behavior or hazards and notify the appropriate party depending on the situation and assist, when needed

· Patrol facility (on foot or in vehicle) per patrol guidelines and remain vigilant for anything unusual or potentially threatening, including checking protection devices and fire control equipment

· Remove trespassers/violators or detain trespassers/violators if further action needs to be taken, including assisting medical personnel with restraining patients

· Protect the Client’s facility, staff, members and visitors from injury or loss due to incidents or emergencies

· Respond to and assist in incidents of disaster: healthcare facility emergency codes, fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, active assailant, hazardous material event, inclement weather, and any other emergency incidents

· Protect evidence, secure scene and direct people in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; setting up barriers and signage as necessary

· Provide excellent customer service to all staff, members and visitors by providing information regarding the facility, or any other assistance needed and communicating in a manner that is courteous, respectful and pleasant

· Prepare and submit required logs and reports per BCI and Client’s procedures

· Knowledge of or ability to learn security & healthcare operations and procedures

· Age-Related Competency: Has demonstrated knowledge of and competence in age-related patient care, as defined and documented in the facility standards

· When applicable, accurately log and maintain the Lost and Found log

· Adhere to all company policies and procedures and remain in compliance with local, state and federal regulations

QUALIFICATIONS

· High School Diploma or GED

· Valid Government issued Driver’s License or valid state issued I.D. card

· Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Certification or Guard Card

· Must have or be able to obtain IAHSS basic and advanced certification within six months of employment

· Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing capabilities

· Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures

· Adhere to applicable state, county and municipal licensing requirements for Healthcare Security Officers

· Able to pass each healthcare competency exam and/or skills lab

· Maintain professional composure when handling crisis situations

· Basic computer skills

· Courteous and professional telephone manner

· Surveillance and observation skills

· High-quality customer service skills

· Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

· Ability to manage multiple tasks with good time-management

· Able to work overtime without advanced notice

· Able to maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA regulations

· Must own a reliable form of transportation (may be used in performance of duties)

· Security, military, or law enforcement related experience preferred

· As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a drug screen in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

A candidate must be physically and mentally fit to effectively perform all essential functions, with the following job demands:

· Able to maintain composure when dealing with conditions of urgency and high-pressure situations (be more specific/some scenarios like people with weapons, morgue, expired bodies, agresssive behavior/mental behaviors, etc.) Risk Management language

· Need to add more items on mental demands

· Able to frequently sit, stand, walk and climb during shifts for potentially long periods of time

· Able to reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and grasp objects with hands and fingers

· Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds

· Ability to run quickly (as needed) to respond to situations and emergencies within a specified period of time depending on the situation

· Able to physically restrain people for long periods of time and assist in moving restrained individuals

· Be comfortable working in various environments with or without the use of protective gear and devices, with possible exposure to: deadly weapons, injury from violent persons, infectious persons, gases and fumes, blood and bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, inclement weather and noise levels in the work environment ranging from extreme noise to extreme quiet

* Additional responsibilities/qualifications/working conditions may be assigned and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position

ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFIT ENROLLMENT

  • Employees who work twenty hours or more per week and earn a monthly wage of at least 86.67 times the Hawaii minimum hourly wage are deemed eligible after four consecutive weeks of employment. Health care coverage must then be provided to such eligible employees at the earliest enrollment date of the employer's health care contractor
