Role and Expectations

The Scrum Master serves, supports, and coaches one or more Agile Scrum team(s) by ensuring clear communication, removal of impediments, and helping the team reach its goal. The Scrum Master will facilitate team productivity by evaluating performance over time, calibrating practices to maximize team output, removing impediments that may obstruct the pursuit of the team's goals, coaching using Agile best practices, and improving team maturity, all while preserving flexibility and ability to rapidly respond to changes on the team.

This role will report to the Release Train Engineer (RTE) and will focus on value, flow, quality, accountability, predictability, and driving continuous improvement of teams as well as participating in Softdocs’s Scrum Community of Practice. This role will work closely with the Product Owner and Team Lead to coordinate sprint work and requirements, communicate across dependent teams and stakeholders, and deliver value to customers.

Responsibilities

Facilitate team scrum activities. This includes:
  • Schedule and facilitate daily standups, sprint retrospective, sprint planning, grooming, sprint review ceremonies, etc.
  • Help determine and maintain team’s working agreement, capacity, and velocity.
  • Work with the Product Owner to ensure that the team's backlog is well groomed and actionable based on the team’s Definition of Ready, including acceptance criteria, non-functional requirements, and appropriate artifacts such as wireframes, mockups, user activity diagrams, etc.
  • Work with Product Owner and Team Lead to clarify priority of items in the sprint backlog.
  • Work with team to drive all stories in the sprint backlog to the team’s Definition of Done.
  • Utilize team feedback and metrics (velocity, carryover, value delivery, unplanned work, team health, etc.) to identify areas of opportunity and work with team to continuously improve.
  • Proactively escalate issues of concern or risk related to deliverables and dependencies, and work with Stakeholders and Development Managers to address or mitigate such issues.
  • Coach the team to improve collaboration and self-organization.
  • Perform this role for multiple teams, focused on the successful processes and outcomes related to those teams.
Help shape Softdocs’s Scrum Community of Practice. This includes:
  • Coordinate dependency delivery from other teams to ensure the overall successful delivery of product features and the Agile Release Train program.
  • Assist the Release Train Engineer to build a reporting strategy that enhances collaboration and gives leadership a view of overall initiative health.
  • Help define, standardize, and set consistent processes throughout the Scrum organization.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years progressive work-related experience for enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) organizations with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines / technologies / processes related to the position.
  • 3+ years of Scrum Master experience for software development teams.
  • Current Scrum Master certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to instill Agile values and make teams productive, at any level of maturity.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing and explaining technical and project related information to clients, vendors, stakeholders, and team.
  • Ability to easily build new relationships and proactively establish a variety of contacts across the organization.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
  • Engineering, Product Management or Product Design experience, especially in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps (or similar Agile tracking tools).
  • Experience with SAFe a plus.
