  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Keep in mind that depending on your organization, one person may have more than one role on a given project team. It is more easily understood if you look at the project team as a set of roles to play. The players may have one or more roles. How you interact on a project team has to do with your assigned role, not necessarily your “title”.
  • Is assigned to the project as early as possible
  • Negotiate with resource managers for the best resources
  • Must have the authority and accountability necessary to accomplish the work
  • Must be able to deal with conflicting or unrealistic scope, quality, schedule, risk and other requirements
  • Is the only one who can integrate the project components into a cohesive whole that meets customer needs
  • Must have the authority to say “NO” when necessary
  • Is held accountable for project failure
  • Understands professional responsibility
  • Is in charge of the project but not necessarily the resources
  • Does not have to be a technical expert
  • Leads and directs the project planning effort
  • Maintains control over the project by measuring performance and taking corrective action
  • Assists the team during project execution

  • Project Management can be organized into TPC groups Departments:
  • Initiating – authorizing the project or phase. (Quote # from Charlotte)
  • Planning – defining and refining objectives and selecting the best course of action. (Standard Work Scopes)
  • Executing – Coordinating people and other resources to carry out the plan. (SS/LM/Approved Vendors)
  • Controlling – ensuring project objectives are met by monitoring and measuring progress to identify variance so corrective action can be taken.
  • Closing – formalizing the acceptance of the project or phase and completing all documentation.

The successful candidate will maintain a high degree of personal safety and environmental awareness at all time. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a safe, efficient manner. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing is also required.
