Definition and Class Characteristics

Join our Road Maintenance Team for the summer season! We are looking for individuals to assist with road maintenance utilizing a variety of medium and heavy road maintenance equipment. This critical role will assist with minor road repairs, brush clearing, traffic control and other duties as assigned.

This is an entry-level classification and individuals are assigned to a variety of work, including heavy physical tasks and the operation of a variety of road maintenance equipment on training or relief assignments.

Ideal candidates will have:
Knowledge of:

  • Safe work practices
  • Geography and road names of a Nevada County road maintenance district
  • Methods, procedures, tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of roads
Skills in:
  • Learning to maintain and make minor repairs on roads
  • Performing physical labor requiring strength, manual dexterity, and agility
  • Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work
Education and Experience Required:
Completion of 12th grade or equivalent.

Licenses and Certificates Required:
Possession of a valid Class C operator's license issued by a State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Sick Leave:

Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 48 hours of sick leave per fiscal year.

Medical Benefits:

Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
