All About You
Under general direction, responsible for daily activities in collaboration with other departments and programs within Saint Louis University (SLU) that support students with academic success; works directly with students providing guidance and connecting them to services; determines needs and outcomes of service utilizations; develops and implements retention programs; works with faculty advisors to support students in targeted populations.Collaborates with faculty and staff to identify factors which put students at risk of dropping out of the school of nursing program and develops an assessment protocol to identify those students.
This position will require the individual to work primarily in the office, with the flexibility to potentially work remotely up to one day per week, upon completion of a six-month orientation period and meeting the requirements of the SLU Remote Staff Flexible Work Policy.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to promote retention of students at the Valentine School of Nursing and develops as assessment protocol to identify students who are at risk of being unsuccessful.
  • Monitors and tracks student performance on exams in collaboration with faculty and Traditional BSN Program Coordinators.
  • Maintains detailed database of student tracking and retention data for use by Academic Advising, the Traditional BSN Program Coordinators, and School of Nursing leadership for use in external reporting. Provides input to the Admission, Progression, and Graduation Committee at the end of the semester for students appealing dismissals at the Valentine School of Nursing.
  • Actively reaches out to students who are at risk or who have been unsuccessful on exams or courses to support, counsel, or refer them to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to support students as needed. Is available for individual meetings with students as needed. Creates presentations for classes and small groups regarding study skills, success strategies and academic resources.
  • Develops personalized retention plans for individual students, focusing on self-advocacy, resilience time management, priorities, learning styles, test-taking strategies, and study skills.
  • Works in collaboration with faculty instructor of NURS 1400 (Introduction to Nursing) to hire and train student peer mentors, provide regular support and supervision to the peer mentors, and coordinate administrative tasks, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, master’s preferred, supplemented with two (2) years of related work experience. Experience working in an academic setting with at-risk students preferred.
