Job Description
The Research Associate will oversee, conduct and enhance the independent research operations in a bacteriology laboratory related to the area of biofilm-associated chronic infections. The successful candidate will conduct research and maintain the daily operation of the laboratory with guidance from the principal investigator and will also be expected to collaborate with and assist in the training of other lab members. Other duties will include initiating and carrying out the development and performance of diverse experiments and assays.
This position is available via the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, but may work with/partner with other research related departments/colleges/areas (ISLB/COHR/VCOM/LS 1/IDRF/etc.).
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in biological sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, or Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, or with significant experience. Demonstrated ability to work independently and organize and prioritize work. Excellent communication skills and ability to work closed with other individuals. Ability to obtain clearance for independent work in a Select Agent BSL-3 laboratory. General knowledge of computers and standard office software. Knowledge and understanding of biosafety and biosecurity principles, policies, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with pathogenic microbes. Experience in presenting educational/training programs. Experience with molecular biology. Knowledge of the safe handling of infectious agents/biological samples. Experience with BSL-3/ABSL-3 facilities/laboratory.
