Candidates will work with startups and large corporations developing hydrothermal-synthesis and -low-temperature densification manufacturing processes for commercial manufacturing of building and infrastructure materials, advanced composite materials (ACMs), and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Several but not all positions are available immediately.

Requirements: The candidates must have a Ph.D. in one or more of the following fields: chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, minerals processing, ceramics, polymers, and powder metallurgy. Candidates must have postdoctoral experience in industry or academia. Strong analytical problem-solving skills, project management, communication, and collaboration skills are required. Candidates should possess skills in two or more of the following areas: hydrothermal synthesis, powder processing, densification methods, thermodynamics & kinetics simulations, materials characterization, and structure-property relationships.

Submission requirements: To apply, send your credentials by email. Please indicate “Sustainable Materials” in the subject line of your email. Ex pected outcomes:
o Solve research and development problems related to the separation of rare earth elements and the associated thermodynamics
o Work on research enabling the synthesis and processing of minerals, waste materials and polymers for making advanced composite materials
o Work on research related to carbon capture, storage and supply

How key duties are performed?
o Plan hypothesis-driven experiments
o Perform experiments related to synthesis and processing
o Oversee graduate students
o Build new instrumentation
o Write journal articles and patent applications

Job Duties:
33 % 1. Cement synthesis
33 % 2. Concrete and Advanced Composite Materials Processing
34 % 3. Process modeling

Candidate must be able to plan and execute experiments according to briefly stated statement of work, completing important milestones and providing deliverables according to the stated schedule.
