General Summary of Position:

The Research Associate reports to the Executive Director of Advancement Services and assists in gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and recording information on current and prospective donors. This position utilizes on-line resources to perform research, manage and track prospects, and identify new major contributors to the University. The Research Associate also uses the constituent database to maintain donor records and produce reports for University leadership and the Major Gift team.

  • Perform proactive research to ensure a steady flow of prospective major donors for assignment to qualify or cultivate. Manage prospect assignment process and collaborate with the appropriate managers.
  • Develop research reports on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational, and financial sources, including online database services, internet websites, library and government sources. Create full donor profiles and snapshot event biographies and briefings.
  • Manage Wealth Screening database by uploading changes in prospect manager assignments monthly and adding new prospect records to be screened. Run prospect queries upon request including: ratings for all assigned prospects, lists of planned giving prospects, and capacity reports used to determine prospect manager portfolio values.
  • Review and verify wealth screening data results and alter match quality rating as needed. Determine prospect assignments for individuals with high gift capacity and/or high affinity to the University.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Must have the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office and network-based electronic environments (familiarity with a variety of online databases and the Internet)
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel including advanced functions
  • 1 year experience in research, including collecting donor and business information and preparing reports
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
