Reporter Job at Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles Times San Diego, CA

Join the hundreds of innovators, advocates and team members who are making an impact every day at one of the most iconic media brands in the nation. Whether you love to tell compelling stories or want to drive our award-winning powerhouse in new directions, the San Diego Union-Tribune team is the place to be.
Job Description Summary
The San Diego Union-Tribune is looking for a journalist with a passion for arts and entertainment to join the A&E staff.

We are looking for a versatile journalist who can tackle a variety of stories under the A&E umbrella.

We cover a great arts and cultural landscape that includes a world-class symphony, top-tier theaters, exceptional museums and Michelin-starred restaurants. As a result, the new reporter must be proficient in covering everything from theater features and reviews to museum and art exhibit previews, to profiles and obituaries on local arts figures, occasional restaurant features and general-assignment breaking arts news.

The position would also include the requirement to write weekly calendar listing files on happenings in the classical music, visual art, theater and restaurant fields.

Because of the breadth of coverage required, we are looking for a motivated and highly productive reporter capable of filing a story every day, and also available to review theater engagements on weekend and sometimes weekday nights. Excellent deadline performance will be a key component of success in this job.

In addition, this reporter must be self-starter who's well-versed in finding new and innovative ways to tell a story, especially for a digital audience.

The Union-Tribune was named California’s best large newspaper in 2019; best in the state for in-depth digital reporting in 2020; and best in digital story presentation in 2021. And the paper’s Sunday arts section, Arts + Culture, was named best in the nation in its division two years in a row, 2021 and 2022.

We are a collaborative newsroom where journalists of all backgrounds work shoulder to shoulder without regard to title or status. Digital publishing is our top priority, and we expect everyone to take a hands-on role.

This reporting job features good pay and extensive benefits, 401k with company match, paid vacation and the opportunity to work either from home or office.
