JOB SUMMARY: Performs the primary functions of a professional nurse in assessing planning, directing and evaluating patient care in an operating room. Assists with the management of all supplies and equipment and the supervision of personnel on the unit and promotes team efforts with physicians and personnel of other departments. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.

B. Personal job-related skills: Demonstrated ability in nursing practice. Leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills.

C. Licensure, registry or certification: Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas. BCLS certification, ACLS preferred.

D. Experience

a. Prior Work Experience: Two years experience as a Registered Nurse in operating or recovery rooms preferred.

b. Technical Training: Basic ECG course, current CPR training.

E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Plans, assesses and participates performing RN scrub or circulating duties in the delivery of operating room nursing care.

a. Participates in setting standards for patient care and nursing practice in operating room nursing.

b. Assists with determining the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care.

c. Monitors, records cardiac rhythm and follows physician’s orders for treatment of cardiac arrhythmias appropriately.

d. Educate patients with appropriate discharge instructions.

e. Ensure patients understand all pre-op instrutions.

f. Uses appropriate phone etiquette when calling patients to schedule for surgery, pre-op, and back injections.

g. Calls patients 1 to 3 days post operatively to see if they have any problems or questions.

h. Assists in cleaning of entire OR, PACU area to include, wiping down all surfaces, changing linen, mopping floor, and cleaning patient restroom.

i. Assists CRNA as needed with injections.

j. Follows Physician’s instructions to give IV infusions to outpatients needing IV medications, including, accessing implanted IV ports.

k. Manages care of patients receiving intravenous drug therapy and monitors hemodynamic stability according to established procedure.

Pay: $33.00 - $42.00 per hour
