Recovery Support Specialist (Adolescent Clubhouse) Job at Sheppard Pratt - Gaithersburg
Summary: The Peer Support Specialist creates and implements Clubhouse activities that promote mental, physical, and social wellness, as it relates to substance abuse recovery. Provides regular Clubhouse oversight, staff coverage, and activity leadership for groups of up to 25 youth, ages 12-17.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, create, implement, and evaluate program activities to meet participant needs.
- Develop a monthly activities calendar.
- Lead and assist with program activities including, but not limited to cooking classes, art
classes, computer classes, workforce development, and tutoring. - Plan and coordinate youth field trips.
- Assist in the upkeep of the clubhouse spaces.
- Engage participants through active listening and meaningful conversations.
- Effectively manage crisis situations as they arise.
- Document daily program numbers and activities.
- Respond to member needs during program hours Monday through Friday 3pm to 8pm
and Saturday 12pm – 6pm. Working alternating Saturdays. - Work closely and collaboratively with Care Coordinator in the implementation of
recovery plans.
Requires:
- BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience working with youth may substitute for a BA/BS.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be reliable to arrive on time, address conflicts, work as a team, and be prepared to run activities.
- Experience with group facilitation, crisis intervention, and knowledge of youth substance abuse issues required.
- Ability to develop rapport with youth in substance abuse recovery and their families. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Bilingual preferred.
- A valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance and a good driving record are required for the transportation of youth.
