Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 10am-8pm

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide REACH Co-Response Crisis training for new and current employees.
  • Assist leadership in developing strategic plans for REACH Co-response.
  • Educate community agencies and partners as needed on REACH Co-response, CIT Co-Response and EPS services as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and leadership meetings for REACH Co-response and EPS as needed.
  • Daily monitoring of the quality of REACH Co-Response assessments, contacts, overall program goals set by REACH Co-response stakeholders, encouraging performance adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in developing and updating policies and procedures for activities of REACH Co-response.
  • Keep all REACH Co-response Counselors informed of current policies and procedures.
  • Support the REACH Co-response staff, CIT Co-response staff, EPS staff, and partner agencies through proactive measures, e.g., brainstorming and problem-solving on both immediate situations and future concerns.
  • Conduct crisis assessment and crisis intervention services to appropriately address the needs of consumers experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
  • Provide immediate mental health support, coordinate consumer care and use internal/external programs and outside community resources to ensure quality care to reduce engagement with criminal justice system.
  • Counselor will ride along in Nashville Fire Department SUV responding to primarily mental health calls for service but will also provide mental health support for the community in other calls for service.
  • Clinically assess for the least restrictive alternative to meet the needs of the consumers experiencing a psychiatric or life emergency.
  • When hospitalization is necessary, make appropriate referrals to facilities equipped to meet needs of the consumers.
  • Make appropriate referrals to EPS Treatment Services to ensure they have necessary clinical information.
  • Actively participate in consult process with supervisory staff when dispositioning cares.
  • Provide follow-up services as indicated in the policies and procedures and as set forth in Title 33.
  • Coordinate with REACH Co-response team, CIT Co-response team, and EPS in cases where intense follow up and systems navigation are needed.
  • Develop individualized plans to meet needs of consumers in crisis.
  • Respond to requests for face-to-face assessment in a timely manner.
  • Always maintain appropriate customer service skills.
  • Assist Triage Counselors in coordinating crisis response and care with consumers in the community.
  • Provide telephone counseling when needed.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and complete documentation within departmental guidelines.
  • Coordinate services as needed with care management teams and provide consultation, as needed, with care management teams.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A mental health professional with specialized training in crisis intervention with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field (counseling, psychology or social work).
