Overview:
Vitro Architectural Glass was formed from two globally proven legacies in commercial glass manufacturing: PPG and Vitro. It all started in 1883, when Captain John Baptiste Ford and John Pitcairn, Jr. founded Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. Soon after, Roberto Sada Muguerza founded Vitro Glass in 1909. In 2016, the industry mantel that PPG carried in the US was passed to Vitro, establishing it as the largest glass manufacturer in North America.

Wichita Falls operates two 650 tons per day tanks, 24 hours per day, and seven day a week. We produces float glass for internal use and for use by other Vitro plants as well as by outside customers in various glazing, coated, mirror, MSVD, and automotive applications. We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our growing team at Vitro Architectural Glass in Wichita Falls, Texas. At our manufacturing facilities, we value continuous learning, innovation and safety. The Quality Engineer supports the activities of the plant Quality department and coordinates effective process control activities to ensure conformance to customer, division, and plant quality standards plus government regulations. The incumbent provides objective evaluations of process performance and product quality and contributes to achievement of plant quality goals. S/he supports the Quality Manager on ISO/TS 16949 compliance audits and other audits and supports plant quality, safety and environmental goals in this role. While our primary focus is architectural glass, the main objective for this role will be to assist our offline MSVD Coater in its automotive processes.
Responsibilities:
  • The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Wichita Falls Quality Manager and will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive plant results as a team.
  • This position supports to the QC Manager and the activities in the Quality Control Department by accumulating and analyzing quality data of in-process and out-going production. Quality Engineers support the Quality Department with necessary documentation, charts/graphs, and supports customer activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining current and long range quality objectives for the plant is standard work; as well as designing Quality Control Systems and developing improvements for existing systems through the application of experience and acquired knowledge. In addition, the Quality Engineer will use the developed quality standards and technology of the Company with respect to costs, product quality, and customer service.
  • This position is in frequent contact with the Quality Manager, Plant Manager and Shift Supervisors concerning quality procedures, product quality levels, as well as customer response. It is imperative the Quality Engineer exercise professionalism, communication, and teamwork daily.
  • The Quality Engineer leads analysis of field complaints, inspects field returns, and makes periodic visits to customer facilities as necessary. They will be the support for all compliance audits required.
  • Managing in-plant Certification testing programs and evaluating results to assist in problem-solving and product improvement in cooperation with the Production Departments is required in the role. The Quality Control Department works with the Production Department to evaluate borderline quality characteristics and render assistance based upon thorough knowledge of product specifications and customer requirements.
  • Based upon the Quality Engineer's knowledge and judgment of the circumstances and the conditions existing at the time, he/she has the responsibility and full decision-making power to determine whether product meets stated requirements, and to provide judgment in those areas where requirements may not exist.
  • The candidate will contribute to the morale of all Quality Control personnel and create an atmosphere of confidence, mutual trust, and respect.
Qualifications:
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree (Engineering or other technically related field) plus one (1) to three (3) years or more in industrial experience in a quality control or related function(s), an aptitude in mathematics and statistics, skill in oral and written communication, and the ability to effectively supervise and develop subordinates if necessary.

They should have working knowledge of IATF16949 standards, Red X methodologies, GD&T, MiniTab & Microsoft Office software, DFSS, Statistics, Export compliance, etc. with good organization skills.
