Job Description Summary:
Psychiatric APC provides diagnostic and therapeutic patient care under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Medical Director, Behavioral Health Administrator as well as other physicians. Provide patient care in an outpatient clinical setting, including but not limited to the following: perform initial psychiatric evaluations, develop a differential and working diagnosis, order laboratory and diagnostic tests, develop and order treatment plans and manage appropriate medications associated with psychiatric disorders. Provide patient and family education regarding psychiatric disorders, coordinate specialty consults as indicated and provide outreach in clinic settings, nursing homes and school based settings.

1. *Perform comprehensive assessments of patients in an outpatient clinical setting. Perform a complete psychiatric assessments and evaluations.
2. *Interpret and order diagnostic and therapeutic tests / procedures such as laboratory, imaging and other diagnostic tests and procedures as clinically indicated. Establish differential diagnoses from the clinical subjective and objective data.
3. *Develop appropriate treatment plans to include prescribed medications, patient education and referrals to other medical or health care specialists.
4. *Coordinate and manage patient care in collaboration with the supervising physicians. Present cases in multidisciplinary settings.
5. *Provide documentation that follows clinic and Logan Health standards and justifies coding/ charges. Complete dictation and documentation in the E Clinical Works or EMR standard format in an accurate and timely manner. Handwriting must be neat and legible.
6. *Educate patients and families regarding behavioral health and disease prevention, diagnostic procedures, medications and treatment options.
7. *Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
8. *Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
9. *Perform evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations as needed. Provide monitoring and continuity of care between visits as warranted.
10. *Consistently provide and maintain effective communication in all areas of the clinic setting. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, outreach clinics, medical and clinical staff and the public. Demonstrate ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Communicate clearly.
11. *Exercise flexibility in role and job situations to ensure the best patient care.
12. *Attend and analyze new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature or “hands on training” and assimilate this knowledge within the clinical practice.
Qualifications
1. Must have graduated from an accredited Master prepared program and have obtained national certification according to PA / NP national standards.
2. Must be licensed in the State of Montana.
3. Two years of related experience preferred.
4. Demonstrate professional medical knowledge to evaluate, diagnose and provide patient care. Demonstrate knowledge of medical equipment, organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Ability to acquire knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Demonstrate knowledge of computer software programs and internet access for medical information and email.
5. Demonstrate skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of psychiatric medicine to provide on-going patient care. Develop and maintain skills in taking psychiatric histories, performing assessments, interpreting findings, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, prescribing treatment plans including patient education and medication management.
6. Have the ability to develop and coordinate the clinical protocols, policies and procedures pertaining to behavioral health related programs.
7. Maintain continuing education requirements. Attending physicians will provide ongoing education and on the job training regarding laboratory interpretation, clinical skills and diagnostic skills in order to ensure the professional development of skills. Administration will provide adequate training on equipment such as computer / palm and applicable software which are expected to be used to fulfill job duties.
13. *Prepare and maintain documentation records such as progress notes and respond to incoming correspondence. Assist with developing and maintaining department quality assurance and reimbursement standards as necessary.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
